Job description

Purpose:The Night Manager Trainee assists the management team by ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of a Dierbergs store, by developing and building the character of the team; focusing on better execution of programs, procedures and policies; and continually working toward creating better customer experiences to help create a long-term sustainable business.

Qualifications:

  • Previous retail or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities

  • 2+ years experience in a supervisory position in a comparable retail environment

Essential Job Functions:

Management of Store/Department Operations

  • Develop proficiency of grocery operations including, but not limited to, ordering, stocking and merchandising product, overseeing aisle assignments, slotting of new products, resets, communicating with vendors and building displays
  • Develop a basic understanding of front-end operations
  • Maintains Dierbergs' standards on a consistent basis
  • Responsible for rotation and freshness ensuring customers receive quality products
  • Manages shelf and store appearance, conditions and cleanliness of total store
  • Enforces and understands company policies, procedures and union contract agreements
  • Monitors associates' weekly average hours and controls overtime usage
  • Assists with the implementation of company directives
  • Maintains a safe and secure work environment, and continually builds safety awareness
  • Responsible for operations of total store when opening and closing
  • Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Additional tasks as assigned/requested

Customer Service and Customer Relations

  • Assists in monitoring total store for ideal conditions
  • Handle, respond to and resolve customer issues and complaints
  • Ensures that customers' needs are met and exceeded daily
  • Initiates customer contact
  • Smiles and has good eye contact and is enthusiastic with customers
  • Promotes, maintains and ensures customers receive high service levels
  • Demonstrates "sense of urgency" in maintaining proper service levels at all times

Management of Associates and Associate Relations

  • Responds to and resolves Associate issues including, but not limited to, schedule concerns, job performance accountability, customer complaints, contract violations and issues corrective action
  • Holds Associates accountable and takes appropriate actions
  • Provides honest and timely feedback, recognition, and/or corrective action
  • Demonstrates conflict resolution skills/deals with conflict honestly

  • Encourages teamwork throughout the store

  • Sets the example by working the necessary schedule to include weekends and holidays

  • Coaches and mentors Associates
  • Provides a positive environment, motivating others to succeed
  • Completes honest Performance Reviews and develops action plans
  • Communicates effectively with all store Associates

Financials

  • Understands all variables affecting store overall profitability including workers' compensation, inventory control, and operating expenses


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to be able to stand on your feet for up to eight hours
  • Ability to be mobile throughout store for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate electric pallet jack, high lift, baler, hand jack and safety cutter
  • Ability to lift products weighing up to 65 lbs (ex: floor to waist, waist to shoulder); occasionally lift up to 40 lbs overhead
  • Ability to push or pull 6-wheel stock carts with loads weighing up to 250 lbs and 2-wheelers with loads weighing up to 175 lbs used to transport cases of product
