Job Summary:
The Senior Geologist will drive growth in the region by originating, maturing, and championing exploration and development opportunities across the Appalachian Basin. This is a senior, self-directed technical role for a seasoned geoscientist who brings a proven track record of identifying and advancing successful growth and exploration opportunities. The incumbent will serve as a technical leader within the subsurface team, setting direction on complex plays, mentoring and elevating fellow team geoscientists, and collaborating closely with corporate exploration and technology teams to convert ideas into executable, value-driving opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Originate, risk, and mature exploration and play-extension opportunities that grow the region's resource base and inventory
• Lead regional geological risk and resource analyses across a variety of play types, integrating geologic, geophysical, petrophysical, and production data
• Serve as an exploration technical leader and mentor within the subsurface team, elevating the group's exploration capability
• Map, model, and clearly communicate resource potential and its business value to technical peers and leadership
• Partner with reservoir engineering to assess prospect economics and prioritize opportunities against the broader portfolio
• Collaborate with corporate exploration, technology, and machine-learning teams to accelerate evaluation and appraisal workflows
• Can work independently, setting priorities and driving work forward with limited supervision
Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated track record of successfully identifying and advancing growth/exploration opportunities in onshore unconventional resource plays; Appalachia/Marcellus and/or broad multi-basin experience strongly preferred
• Strong technical leadership presence able to influence, mentor, and elevate a team without relying on formal authority
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to translate technical work into clear business-relevant recommendations for leadership
• Advanced integration of geologic, geophysical, petrophysical, and production data
• Proficiency in industry mapping/interpretation software (e.g., Kingdom); familiarity with data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire and ArcPro) a plus
• Strong command of well logs and petrophysics; experience with seismically-informed characterization a plus
• Highly ambitious and self-motivated individual that thrives in deep technical work, and comfortable operating with autonomy and ambiguity
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Power Point
Education Requirements:
Minimum: Graduate degree; Master's degree in geology or geophysics highly preferred
Years of Experience:
10+ years of upstream oil and gas experience, with a substantial portion in exploration/growth and onshore unconventional plays; senior-level technical judgment and demonstrated impact required
Working Conditions and Physical Demand
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. Incumbents must be able to perform work which includes typing, sitting, and standing. In the event that incumbent visits operations worksite, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame resistant clothing is required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours on short notice.
Travel Requirements:
Percent of Travel Required: 10% - 15%; Travel will be required for mandatory meetings, training, and visits to field locations
