Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Powertrain 1D Simulation Engineer to lead and execute complex simulation projects using the GT-Suite software platform. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, calibration, and application of 1D CFD models to analyze, optimize, and design propulsion systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep analytical capabilities, a proven track record in project leadership, and expertise in both conventional and alternative fuel powertrains.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead 1D Model Development & Analysis: Develop, build, tune, and correlate high-fidelity 1D CFD models for propulsion systems (including gasoline, diesel, and H2 engines) using GT-Power, BOOST, GT-Cool, and GT-Drive.
  • Drive System Optimization: Perform propulsion system performance analysis, thermal management (STM), and optimization using Model-Based Design (MBD) and Functional-Based Design (FBD) processes. Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) and Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) techniques for design parameter optimization.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Lead project teams, manage deliverables, and contribute to team growth and capability development.
  • Advanced Propulsion Support: Support the development of advanced propulsion systems, including hybrid and electric vehicles, through integrated system modeling and analysis.
  • Boosting System Expertise: Conduct turbocharger matching, evaluation, and transient load step control analysis. Analyze LP/HP EGR systems to improve fuel economy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with test engineers to develop dyno procedures, validate model predictions, and correlate simulation results with experimental data.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines, resources, and technical deliverables within the simulation team, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience in 1D CFD simulation of powertrain systems using the GT-Suite (GT-Power, GT-Cool, GT-Drive).
  • Proven experience in engine performance analysis, thermal systems modeling, and propulsion system optimization.
  • Strong background in model calibration and correlation with physical test data.
  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership, team mentoring, and managing technical projects.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills for unusual and complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred:
  • Ph.D. in Internal Combustion Engine.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for co-simulation applications.
  • Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle propulsion system integration.
  • Experience with sensors and actuators modeling and integration.
  • Proficiency with UNIGRAPHICS NX and MathCAD.
