Job Details:
Job Title: Senior Interaction Designer (Interaction Designer - Advanced)
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 4 days onsite per week; must be flexible on WFH days - cannot choose every Monday and Friday as WFH)
Duration: 12 Months
Type: Full-Time, Contract
Note: Portfolio required. When evaluating portfolios, the Hiring Manager will look for: Design System decisions/thinking, end-to-end design process (discovery to delivery), success metrics/impact, responsive desktop/tablet/laptop projects (must have desktop projects), and native work (nice-to-have but not required).
Description:
A major financial institution is looking for a Senior Interaction Designer to join the Digital Design team focused on Online Banking (Desktop Personal Banking). In this role, you will work as an ambassador for the Online Banking Group design system across teams. You will design interface components and common shared components across products, working on responsive desktop/tablet/laptop experiences (not mobile native). You will collaborate with developers from concept to implementation, work across multiple squads, and navigate ambiguity in business requirements. You will articulate design rationale clearly and ensure design decisions are well-communicated across cross-functional partners.

  3. End-to-End Design - full cycle from discovery to implementation

Requirements for the role:

  • 5-9 years of design experience

  • Strong experience with Design Systems

  • Pure interaction design focus - ideal match

  • End-to-end design knowledge from discovery to implementation

  • Experience designing for desktop/tablet/laptop responsive web (not mobile native)

  • Figma expertise - primary design tool (components, tokens, auto-layout, variables, prototyping, dev mode)

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and work with incomplete information

  • Strong collaboration skills working with developers and cross-functional teams

  • Ability to articulate design rationale and convey design decisions clearly

  • Portfolio required (must include desktop projects, design system decisions, end-to-end process, and success metrics)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design, Product Design, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field (preferred)

  • 5-9 years of relevant design experience

  • Or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • Banking/FinTech experience

  • Mobile app experience

  • Miro collaboration tool knowledge

  • Understanding of mobile-first design principles

  • Visual design skills
