POSITION SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator II is responsible for supporting the missioncritical production, test, and development applications used for campusadministration.
The DatabaseAdministrator II (DBA II) is responsible for supporting Oracle DatabaseAdministration, Apache Tomcat, Banner Administration, and middlewareintegrations. Further responsibilitiesinclude support of the data warehouse and ETL processes, troubleshooting errorsgenerated by in-house or vendor provide software, building and configuringBanner modules to perform needed functionality according to documentedprocesses and procedures, assisting with the implementation of new software andupgrades of existing software, and working with the application team to developdatabase architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance procedures.
Duties areperformed on a variety of operating systems with a primary focus on Linux and Windows.The DBA II may be required to work evenings and weekends to ensure properadministration.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts advanced Oracle Database Administration tasks, including databasecreation and maintenance, tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery,program migrations, and security implementation/enforcement/audit. Provides technical leadership and guidance toless senior database administrators.
Architects' high availability systems and implements, documents, and testsDisaster Recovery solutions. Installs, maintains, and integrates Middle Tiertechnologies including Apache Tomcat.
Coordinates with the Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) to conductproject management duties such as research, scoping, resource planning, andrisk analysis. Mentors team members, develops documentation and technicalguidelines and diagrams.
Researchesemerging technologies and trends in the Oracle Database and applications marketand develops proposals on how these trends impact the Duquesne environment.Assist with the implementation of new software and upgrades of existingsoftware.
Works withDuquesne module leaders to plan and implement Ellucian patches and upgrades.Build and configure Banner modules to perform needed functionality according todocumented processes and procedures.
Works withvendors to diagnose integration, functionality, and performance issues.Monitors and manages TDX tickets. Provides Banner application and functionalsupport, maintains support tickets with Ellucian / Oracle / third partyvendors.
Completes otherduties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT or a related field from an accreditededucational institution.
3-5 years ofrelated work experience.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:
Ability to conduct independent research into technical subjects and presentfindings or recommendations.
Ability to makeand defend decisions in ambiguous technical environments.
Strong analyticaland organizational skills, attention to detail, in addition to outstandingwritten and verbal communication, technical writing skills, and presentationskills required.
Ability toinitiate and follow through with work responsibilities and to meet deadlines.
Ability andwillingness to learn new technologies and skillsets.
Ability tocorrelate fixes available in patches with identified functional and technicalissues. Work with Duquesne moduleleaders as needed to plan for upgrades and patches.
Advanced SQLskills and experience migrating database objects. Advanced Shell Scripting.
Displays advancedunderstanding of application server hardware and software architecture.
Ability toexecute complex database administration tasks to support the campus ERP andrelated technologies. Ability totroubleshoot and support the campus ERP application with strong analyticalsense. Install, maintain, and integratedatabase and application components.
Advanced level ofapplied knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, practices, andprocesses.
Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the UniversityCommunity.
