Job description

A contractor-position for a Paralegal I is open at CSAA Insurance Group! 

CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, offers automobile, homeowners and other personal lines of insurance to AAA Members through AAA clubs in 23 states and the District of Columbia. 

Founded in 1914, we have been rated “A” or better by A.M. Best for more than 90 years and are one of the top personal lines property casualty insurance groups in the United States, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. 

Benefit options available depending on contract factors and upon meeting requirements.

Provides paralegal support services to AAA NCNU attorneys defending insureds involved in litigation.  

Essential Functions / Principal Responsibilities:

  • Must be sufficiently experienced in and familiar with legal file review and initial drafting of legal documents, such as discovery responses, trial documents, jury instructions, motions and other pleadings in California courts and jurisdictions.  
  • Responsible for calculating statutory deadlines and completing assignments (i.e., client responses) in compliance with same. Legal research via electronic resources  (Lexis)  on variety of legal issues involving civil procedure particular to personal injury litigation.
  • Conducts insured client interviews for discovery purposes. Assists attorney with preparation of evidence and works with retained experts for trial, arbitration, and mediation readiness.

Skills Required:

  • Strong PC skills and knowledge of legal software applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written skills needed to compose legal documents
  • Ability to handle and respond to sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong analytical, verbal communication and organizational skills Understand legal concepts, terminology, principles and legal procedures
  • Understand legal and professional ethics
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a litigation team

Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience Certification(s) and/or licensure(s) in functional area
  • Paralegal certification per CA Business & Professions Code Section 6450-6456

Preferred: minimum 3 – 5 years previous experience as a paralegal performing functions and tasks listed above.
