Our Team:
Academic and Faculty Affairs (AFA) handles massive amounts of data between two teams: The Faculty Data Team (previously the Activity Insight Team) and the Academic Planning Team. The mission of the Faculty Data Team is to provide decision-quality data and analysis for college leadership. The mission of the Academic Planning Team is to ensure that courses are offered and staffed as smoothly and fiscally efficiently as possible. Both teams provide leadership with metrics on current and past performance aligned with those goals.
Reports from both teams are integral to several critical activities in the College, including accreditation, reviews, rankings, course planning, web updates, extra compensation, and more. The teams work on an annual cycle, with periods of heavy data entry, analysis, and reporting coordinated throughout the year to meet college data requirements for faculty pay increases, teaching adjustments, visiting faculty recruitment, accreditation reports, rankings survey data due to outside organizations, promotion and tenure processes, and many other needs. Central to every product and process is reliable, high-quality data. The role of the Academic Affairs Data Analyst is to understand the college's needs and use of AFA data, make appropriate decisions about how to categorize it, and accurately enter, validate, and report on it.
This Position:

The role of the Academic Affairs Data Analyst is to understand the college's needs and use of faculty data and the course planning process, maintain the database systems required to track it, and report as necessary to support the team's mission. The Data Analyst also runs regular data validations and works with the Data Team Leads to ensure the annual cycle is followed.
The Academic Affairs Data Analyst, with the Faculty Activity Data Analyst and Activity Insight Team Lead, is responsible for the consistency and accuracy of the faculty data in the Faculty Success system. This moderately complex data comes from many sources, including faculty CVs, emails, and annual self-review reports. The Academic Affairs Data Analyst also works with the Academic Project Planning Manager to enter, validate, and maintain data in the Academic Planning Database.
The Academic Affairs Data Analyst exercises sound judgment and experience to identify and correct data quality issues, both in general and specific to individual datasets. As necessary, they suggest updates to business rules and/or data structure to clarify data entry tasks and better support reporting.
The Academic Affairs Data Analyst has regular direct contact with faculty to fill specific data requests, especially in support of academic course planning. As part of the larger Academic and Faculty Affairs data team, they also provide input on changes to team processes and policies.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written; exceptionally well-organized and process-oriented; comfortable in a digital environment.
  • Very familiar with MS Office
  • Familiar with data management concepts
  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced user of MS Excel and familiarity with MS Access and SQL
  • Familiar with Cornell processes and organization
  • Previous Faculty Success and/or Salesforce experience
