Job description

Hiring salary is $21.79 to $26.15 hourly.  Exact compensation negotiable based on skills and experience.

Summary:  Under direct supervision, the Engagement Specialist II works with staff to support the library’s strategic goals and initiatives by assisting customers and providing relevant and timely programs and services, both inside and outside the library.

This position will be assigned to the East Edmond Library, which is located at I-35 and East 15th St. There are two shifts available, the ideal candidate will be able to work one or both shifts. Shift #1: Mondays 4pm-9pm, Thursdays 3pm-8pm, Fridays 1pm-6 pm, Saturdays 10am-3pm
OR
Shift #2: Mondays 3pm-8pm, Tuesdays 4pm-9pm, Fridays 8am-1pm, and Sundays 1pm-6pm

The Metropolitan Library System offers a comprehensive benefits package for half-time employees

Metropolitan Library System — Now Hiring for East Edmond Library

Metropolitan Library System is now recruiting for the East Edmond Library. The new joint-use facility is being developed in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City and the City of Edmond. 

Opening in late 2026, this cutting-edge library will boost services in East Edmond and act as a vibrant community center for learning and connection. Guests will have expanded access to educational resources, advanced technology, and versatile spaces for personal and professional growth.

Highlights: The East Edmond Library, located at I-35 and East 15th St., will offer a wide range of services, including: diverse print and digital collections, public technology access programs for all ages, creative learning opportunities, multipurpose meeting spaces, drive-through pickup and return, as well as indoor and outdoor community spaces.

Successful candidates will first work at other locations in our library system before the East Edmond Library opens. This will help them get familiar with our processes, receive training, and prepare for the new library's launch.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new library from the ground up and contribute to a major community destination in one of Oklahoma County's fastest-growing areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or university; and
  • One year of customer service experience.

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Enthusiasm for public service and the ability to work well with a diverse audience.
  • Experience building sustainable community relationships.
  • High level of comfort with program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
