Job description

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions
  • Assists with the safe, compliant and profitable development of our Field Service Program.
  • Ensures all safety requirements are met or exceeded and adheres to all company procedures.
  • Practices and follows lab pack safety and operations SOP's and all other Field Service Operating Procedures.
  • Operates with minimal supervision and is required to use expertise and experience to make decisions regarding the safe and compliant shipment, handling and processing of lab packs.
  • Completes chemical inventories and able to segregate materials on paper (paper pack) according to their physical properties, chemical properties, and DOT and EPA regulations.
  • Accurately communicate instructions regarding the hazards of material being managed to other who will be handling or receiving the waste materials.
  • Performs lab packing at customer sites in accordance with governmental health and safety guidelines and customer policies.
  • Works with customers and Ross technical staff to reconcile additional materials being added to projects.
  • Maintains all paperwork necessary to track and invoice projects and assists with the cleanliness and general upkeep of all work areas.
  • Supports the RIS Field Services Manager with performing Field Services at customer locations, segregating chemicals for lab packing and by serving as a backup to Customer Service in preparing manifests and Waste Product Surveys.
  • Plays a significant role in achieving AOP objectives.
  • Performs as a Customer Service Chemist for approving lab packs as necessary.
  • Performs fingerprint testing in the field as necessary.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to: pumps, vacuum equipment, oil spill booms, generators, skid steers, etc.
  • Engages in strenuous physical activity including lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects including 55-gallon drums.
  • Works in indoor and outdoor areas with potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces or areas of low clearance.
  • May serve as a technician in the field, ensuring materials are properly vacuumed, sampled, manifested, segregated, packaged, shipped and to perform industrial services in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed and in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Daily use of advanced PC and business computer applications, telephone conferencing and e-mail.
  • Understands both RIS' OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health & Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and assists with executing their objectives.
  • Performs other job-related duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology or related science or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 years experience in environmental remediation or hazardous waste disposal preferred.
  • Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office/Windows and computerized waste tracking systems).
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time while performing inspections.
  • Experience with operating front-end loader, forklift or tow motor or a CDL is a plus.
  • Must have the desire and ability to travel 30-40% of the time.
  • Must be technically competent and have a good understanding of physical properties and characteristics of common chemicals.
  • Must be physically able to wear personal protective equipment when necessary.
