Job description

Your opportunity

At Schwab, you are empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.
We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).  This role is expected to be in the office 4 days a week.

At Charles Schwab, we’re driven by a clear purpose: to help people invest and manage their money with confidence. Our Banking Technology organization partners closely with Charles Schwab Bank to deliver innovative, reliable technology solutions that support critical banking products and services across Lending and Mortgage domains.
Our team supports a modern application portfolio that blends SaaS and internally developed solutions, forming a strong foundation for system integrations, customer-facing experiences, regulatory needs, and reporting capabilities. We are currently designing the next generation of our banking platform—an exciting opportunity to help shape technology that supports both today’s business needs and future growth.
What You’ll Do:

As a Scrum Master within Banking Technology, you’ll play a key role in enabling high-performing agile teams and supporting the delivery of high-quality, impactful solutions. You’ll serve as a trusted facilitator, coach, and servant leader—helping teams work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment while continuously improving how work gets done.
You’ll partner closely with Product Owners, Project Managers, and stakeholders to ensure transparency, alignment, and steady progress toward business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Scrum Master for two or more agile teams, supporting consistent and effective agile delivery.
  • Coach teams on Scrum principles and practices, helping them mature and continuously improve.
  • Foster an environment where teams are empowered, self-organizing, and motivated to deliver value.
  • Facilitate core Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Encourage teams to regularly inspect and adapt their processes and ways of working.
  • Support teams in establishing predictable delivery patterns and sustainable team cadences.
  • Identify and help remove impediments, escalating when appropriate to support team success.
  • Partner with Product Owners to support backlog creation, prioritization, and ongoing refinement.
  • Track and communicate key delivery metrics such as sprint progress, velocity, risks, and accomplishments.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and other teams to enable cross-team coordination when needed.
  • Promote strong engineering practices and help teams adopt tools and techniques that support quality and efficiency.
  • Lead with a servantleader mindset, focusing on enabling others to succeed.
What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a software development environment, ideally with cross-team dependencies.
  • 5+ years of experience managing stakeholder expectations, delivery timelines, status reporting, and change management.
  • Have led teams in a large, complex enterprise environment where successful projects potentially involve more than 2 Scrum teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Scrum principles and practices, aligned with the Scrum Guide.
  • Solid understanding of Agile values and principles.
  • Experience with agile planning and delivery practices, including backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, release planning, and common agile metrics.
  • Working knowledge of project management fundamentals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong servant‑leadership approach with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Clear, effective communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for learning and evolving agile practices.
  • Ability to apply a variety of facilitation techniques to help teams navigate challenges and succeed.
  • Experience facilitating constructive conversations and resolving conflict in a respectful, timely manner.
  • High energy, positive outlook, and enthusiasm for helping teams do their best work.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities

What’s in it for you

At Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future. We champion your growth through meaningful work, continuous learning, and a culture of trust and collaboration—so you can build the skills to make a lasting impact. Our Hybrid Work and Flexibility approach balances our ongoing commitment to workplace flexibility, serving our clients, and our strong belief in the value of being together in person on a regular basis.

We offer a competitive benefits package that takes care of the whole you – both today and in the future:

  • 401(k) with company match and Employee stock purchase plan
  • Paid time for vacation, volunteering, and 28-day sabbatical after every 5 years of service for eligible positions
