CAMBA’s Community School partnership at P.S. 306 provides integrated academic, social-emotional, health, and family supports within the school day and beyond, in collaboration with school leadership, teachers, families, and community-based partners. The Community School model treats the school as a hub for the surrounding community, aligning mental health services, positive behavior supports, restorative practices, enrichment, and family engagement so that students are supported academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally. Programming serves students in Pre-K through the elementary grades, with an emphasis on early intervention, positive school culture, and connection to community-based resources.

Position: Mental Health Coordinator 

Reports To: Community School Director 

Location: P.S. 306, Brooklyn, NY 

What Does the Mental Health Coordinator Does: 

Compliance 

• Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures. 

• Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information. 

• Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident and incident reporting. 

• Maintain professional relationships with students while protecting student confidentiality. 

 Engagement 

• Assist in organizing school-wide activities that promote positive school culture. 

• Support initiatives such as the PBIS Store, Community Circle, anti-bullying campaigns, and student leadership councils. 

• Support school-wide initiatives that promote student wellness and positive behavior. 

• May supervise students during breakfast, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal, ensuring a safe, structured, and inclusive environment while implementing positive behavior supports. 

• Advocate for students and promote an environment where students feel welcomed, respected, and supported. 

• Maintain a safe and respectful school environment by addressing behavioral concerns, implementing restorative and positive behavior strategies, and collaborating with school staff to resolve concerns. 

 Social-emotional Learning & Behavioral Interventions 

• Facilitate restorative practices, SEL lessons, and therapeutic group sessions. 

• Provide age-appropriate behavioral and emotional support to Pre-K through 2nd grade students throughout the school day, helping students develop emotional regulation, positive peer interactions, communication skills, and conflict-resolution strategies. 

• Provide push-in classroom support, implement interventions, and promote a positive learning environment. 

• Design and update a monthly interactive SEL bulletin board promoting self-awareness, social awareness, and responsible decision-making. 

• Lead Lunch Bunch groups to foster students’ social-emotional development and relationship-building. 

• Provide behavioral and emotional support to students throughout the school day. 

• Model restorative practices and positive behavior strategies for students and staff. 

 Administrative 

• Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including logs, case notes, progress notes, ClientTrack entries, and required documentation. 

• Assist students and families with completing CAMBA intake applications and forms. 

• Conduct and document mental health assessments. 

• Develop and maintain individualized service and intervention plans. 

• Collaborate with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to coordinate services and referrals with community-based providers. 

School-Based Mental Health Collaboration 

• Provide individual and group counseling services to support students’ emotional, behavioral, social, and academic development. 

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualized service and intervention plans. 

• Collaborate with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to coordinate services and referrals. 

• Connect students and families to community resources and monitor progress through case management and follow-up. 

• Conduct mental health workshops and presentations for students, families, and staff. 

• Advocate for students by addressing academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs. 

• Monitor student progress and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to adjust interventions as needed. 

• Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Education Required:  

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling or a related field required. Master’s Degree preferred. 

Minimum Experience and Skills Required: 

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing counseling, social-emotional, or behavioral support services to children and families. 

• Experience working in a school-based or community school setting preferred. 

• Experience working with Pre-K through elementary grade students preferred. 

• Experience conducting assessments and developing individualized service or intervention plans. 

• Knowledge of restorative practices, PBIS, trauma-informed care, and social-emotional learning frameworks. 

• Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. 

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and client database systems; experience with ClientTrack preferred. 

 
Pre-employment Requirements: 

Successfully complete and maintain all required background checks and clearances throughout employment, as required by applicable federal, New York State, and New York City regulations and as outlined in the pre/post-employment requirements. Failure to maintain required clearances may result in removal from duties involving children and/or further employment action. 

• New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Sex Offender Registry (SOR) clearance  

• New York State Central Register (SCR) clearance for child abuse and maltreatment  

• New York State Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance  

• New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) clearance, as applicable  

• Criminal background check and fingerprinting, as required  

• DOE Personnel Eligibility Tracking System (PETS) clearance, as applicable 

• Submit medical tuberculosis (TB) test results as part of the onboarding process. 

• S-95/F-07 exam and FDNY Certificate of Fitness obtained within two (2) weeks of hire  

• Completion of the required health and safety trainings listed below within the first week of employment:  

• Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)  

• Building on Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)  

• Identifying and Responding to Anaphylaxis: Elijah’s Law (1.5 hours)  

• Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma-Informed Practice (45 minutes)  

• Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours)  

• Getting Ready to Work with Youth Training (30 min) 

• Must complete a one-hour training, provided by DYCD, on the following topics: 

    o Mental health and mental illness 

    o Engagement and de-escalation strategies 

    o Referral and crisis management protocols 

    o Mental health resources 

Compensation: $65,000 - $67,000

When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

 Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
