University of Colorado Anschutz Department: School of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Job Title : Advanced Practice Provider (APP)/(PA/NP/APRN)/School of Medicine/ Gastroenterology and Hepatology /Instructor Practice Location: UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital, Highlands Ranch, CO Position #00848958 – Requisition #40109

Job Summary: As an important member of the community practice team, the Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant) will have clinical responsibilities, including outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital consultation. The Advanced Practice Provider will see a mix of inpatient day time GI consults at Highlands Ranch Hospital (HRH) in concern with one of the community practice physicians and outpatient clinic visits at the CU Medicine Clinic at the HRH Medical Office Building at least 4 days per week (8 half-days). The successful applicant for this position will be someone who communicates appropriately and effectively with patients, staff, consultants, and colleagues, has outstanding customer service skills, and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and management of GI disorders within the scope of a general gastroenterology advanced practice provider including:
    • GERD
    • Dysphagia
    • IBS/functional GI disorders
    • Constipation
    • Diarrhea
    • Gastrointestinal bleeding/iron deficiency anemia
    • Eosinophilic Esophagitis
    • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
    • Abnormal liver function tests
    • Liver cirrhosis
    • Pancreatitis
    • GI motility disorders

Work Location: Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite, primarily in the attached medical office building at the Highlands Ranch Hospital in Highlands Ranch, CO as well as the inpatient side of the hospital on occasion.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Instructor – Nurse Practitioner MSN required from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure by a national professional organization.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Colorado
  • Admission to the Advanced Practice Registry of the Colorado Board of Nursing
  • Prescriptive authority required
  • Two (2) years clinical experience in practice as an NP
  • Instructor – Physician Assistant Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current Physician Assistant licensure in the State of Colorado
  • Prescriptive authority required
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in practice as a PA

Preferred Qualifications: DNP preferred for Nurse Practitioners Three (3) or more years of experience working in Gastroenterology Three (3) or more years of inpatient experience Three (3) or more years of outpatient experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication skills to interface with learners, faculty, healthcare teams, administrators, community organizations and donors Candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community and work toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Outstanding customer service and patient relations skills. Excellent organizational skills, ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and work independently. Excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of the professional medical practice to give and evaluate patient care in the gastroenterology clinic. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical conditions, and interpreting findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and their family members, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
