About the Role

The Project Controls Specialist will manage financial oversight for complex Tool Install engineering projects, ensuring budgets, billing, forecasts, and reporting are accurate and compliant. Job DescriptionRole

The Project Controls Specialist provides financial oversight for complex engineering projects in the Tool Install division, ensuring projects are executed within budget, on schedule, and in compliance with financial policies. The role sets up and manages project cost structures, billing terms, budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up new projects in Deltek Vantagepoint, including phase/task structure, billing terms, rate tables, revenue methods, and budget loading.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections in collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.
  • Implement and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and cost coding for accurate cost allocation and reporting.
  • Identify and analyze cost overruns, variances, and risks; provide timely reporting and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Maintain and manage detailed project schedules and assess cost impacts of schedule changes and delays.
  • Review vendor proposals and coordinate with procurement to issue purchase orders.
  • Support internal audits related to project finances and provide required documentation.
  • Generate and analyze complex financial reports (budget vs. actual, cost forecasts, variance analysis, earned value metrics, cash flow statements).
  • Review client invoices for accuracy and support billing methods such as time & materials, fixed fee, and cost-plus.
  • Support change order analysis and tracking; communicate financial implications to project teams and clients.
  • Serve as a primary contact for project-related financial inquiries and present financial reports to project teams, management, and clients.
Requirements
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and progressive project accounting/controls experience.
  • Progressive experience in project control, project accounting, or cost accounting—preferably supporting engineering, construction, or high-technology AEC projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, charts); macros/VBA is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Experience with scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Oracle Primavera) and project accounting systems (e.g., Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint, SAP Project Systems) is highly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational/time management skills, and ability to communicate financial information to technical and non-technical audiences.
