Job description


JOB SUMMARY
The DC Safety Supervisor is responsible for driving safety execution, compliance, and risk reduction across assigned Distribution Centers. This role serves as a visible, floor-based safety partner, influencing leaders and team members through real-time coaching, proactive risk identification, and consistent application of safety standards.
This position requires independent judgment, strong ownership, and 60%+ on-floor presence to ensure safety is integrated into daily operations while maintaining high standards of documentation, communication, and accountability. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety (with a dotted line to the DC General Manager).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Safety Execution & Culture
  • Maintain 60%+ presence on the floor, engaging team members and leaders across shifts
  • Reinforce safe behaviors through real-time coaching, not after-the-fact correction
  • Support shift start meetings, speak-ups, and operational discussions to embed safety into execution
  • Identify risks proactively and act with urgency to protect team members

Risk Reduction & Compliance
  • Execute daily Behavior Observations (BOS) and partner with leaders to calibrate quality and consistency
  • Participate in Gemba walks and complete structured Safety Walks, identifying and documenting risks
  • Use observations to coach leaders in the moment, improving hazard recognition and decision-making
  • Drive accountability for completion and effectiveness, not just metrics
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards through daily execution, not periodic checks
  • Validate training, including MHE certification and required safety programs
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory requirements with accuracy and ownership

Incident Management & Reporting
  • Reviews and supports investigation of safety incidents, ensuring timely and accurate documentation
  • Validates that all required documentation (photos, reports, video, corrective actions) is complete
  • Tracks and analyzes incident trends to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Supports communication and escalation of safety incidents as needed

Training & Development
  • Provides oversight and support for the delivery of safety training for leaders and team members across both locations
  • Ensures all team members at both sites are properly trained, certified, and compliant with MHE and safety protocols
  • Supports onboarding and continuous learning initiatives related to safety and operational changes for both locations
  • Oversees and supports training efforts related to new technologies, including automation and robotics, across both facilities

Operational Partnership
  • Partners with DC leadership to integrate safety into daily operations, BOS routines, and Gemba walks
  • Provides real-time feedback during shift meetings, safety walks, and operational discussions
  • Supports operational readiness by identifying risks and recommending solutions
  • Collaborates with HR, Operations, Maintenance, and Security teams
  • Navigate competing priorities while maintaining focus on team member safety and operational excellence

Security & Asset Protection (Support Role)
  • Partners with third-party security teams to ensure compliance with site expectations
  • Assists with investigations related to policy violations as needed
  • Support physical security execution across multiple locations, ensuring consistency of standards
  • Coordinate audits, inspections, and compliance activities across sites
  • Adapt to varying operational needs while maintaining clear prioritization and accountability

Continuous Improvement
  • Supports implementation of new processes, including automation and equipment changes
  • Identifies opportunities to improve safety processes and team member behaviors
  • Participates in special projects and company-wide safety initiatives
  • Facilitate Safety Committee engagement and reinforce participation
  • Take ownership of outcomes and continuously raise the standard

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2-4+ years of experience in distribution center safety, operations, or related environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and safety compliance practices
  • Strong ability to influence without direct authority
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret safety data
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in environments with automation, robotics, or advanced MHE
  • OSHA certification or other safety-related credentials
  • Experience with safety reporting systems and incident tracking tools
