What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, a solid understanding of algorithms and data structures, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with frameworks like Django or Flask, version control systems such as Git, and knowledge of databases and cloud services are commonly required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers collaborate and deliver high-quality code. These skills and qualities are vital to building efficient, scalable software solutions and contributing effectively to development teams.

What are some common challenges Python Developers face when working on large-scale projects?

Python Developers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges such as managing codebase complexity, ensuring consistent code style among team members, and optimizing application performance. Collaboration with other developers becomes essential, often requiring the use of version control systems and code review processes. Additionally, integrating Python code with other technologies or legacy systems can present unique compatibility and testing hurdles. Proactively adopting best practices like modular architecture and thorough documentation can help mitigate these issues.

What does a Python Developer do?

A Python Developer designs, codes, and maintains software applications using the Python programming language. They often work on web applications, data analysis, automation scripts, and more. Their responsibilities can include writing and testing code, debugging programs, integrating third-party services, and collaborating with other developers and stakeholders. Python Developers are valued for their ability to create efficient, scalable, and readable code. They may also be involved in deploying applications and maintaining technical documentation.

Job description

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking an IFS Technical Consultant for a Remote position with a leading technology partner in the global Aerospace and Defense industry. This is a direct-hire opportunity.
We are seeking an experienced IFS Technical Analyst / Developer to support an existing IFS Apps 10 environment, contribute directly to an ongoing IFS Cloud implementation, and provide light operational support for a legacy Cumulus MES system during its planned sunset period. This hands-on, delivery-focused role is responsible for implementing technical changes, ensuring platform stability, and maintaining upgradeability all under the direction of the defined architectural framework. This role is ideal for someone who is strong in IFS technical development and integrations, comfortable learning a legacy tool, and able to manage a phased transition with minimal disruption to operations.
IFS - Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deliver technical solutions across IFS Apps 10 and IFS Cloud in line with established architectural standards and guidance
  • Implement configuration changes, custom objects, reports, data model extensions, and integration components
  • Build and maintain projections, custom fields, lobbies, APIs, and IFS Connect integrations
  • Support data migration, testing, defect resolution, and technical workstreams within the IFS Cloud implementation project
  • Ensure all delivered changes remain stable, supportable, maintainable, and upgradeable post go-live
  • Troubleshoot issues across the IFS stack, working with functional leads and architects to ensure alignment with solution design
  • Produce technical documentation for all developed components and integrations

Cumulus MES - Transitional Responsibilities:
  • Assume operational "keep the lights on" support for the existing Cumulus MES environment
  • Learn key functional and technical background to ensure continuity following the carve out
  • Perform basic incident resolution and maintain system stability until decommissioning
  • Support extraction and preparation of historical data to be migrated into an Access database or other archival store
  • Ensure Cumulus continues to operate reliably during the overlap with the IFS Cloud rollout
  • Contribute to the controlled phase-out of Cumulus as processes transition into IFS
  • Ability to quickly reverse-engineer legacy codebases with minimal documentation

Ways of Working:
  • Execute technical change under direction from the Solution/Enterprise Architect
  • Follow defined integration patterns, security standards, and design principles
  • Escalate deviations, risks, or technical constraints for architectural approval
  • Participate in change control, release management, and production deployment cycles
  • Work collaboratively with business stakeholders, project teams, and external vendors

Requirements:
  • Strong hands-on experience with IFS Apps 10 development and configuration
  • Practical experience with IFS Cloud (implementation or upgrade project experience is highly desirable)
  • Strong SQL/PLSQL and Oracle DB skills
  • Experience with IFS Developer Studio, Aurena development, IFS Connect, and reporting tools (BR, Quick Reports, Crystal, etc)
  • Ability to learn and support a legacy MES tool with limited documentation; Knowledgeable in coding development languages used for Cumulus MES such as C#, VB.NET, XAML, Python
  • Experience delivering technical change in a structured, architecture led environment
  • Understanding of integration technologies including REST, SOAP, and middleware concepts

Desired skills:
  • Exposure to MES platforms (Cumulus or similar)
  • Experience in system migration, data extraction, or sunset/decommissioning activities
  • Knowledge across manufacturing or A&D operational processes
  • Familiarity with Azure, modern API patterns, or event-based integrations
  • Experience supporting both legacy and next generation systems during parallel operation

Personal Attributes:
  • Pragmatic problem-solver with strong analytical capability
  • Able to balance Business as Usual (BAU) support, Cloud implementation activities, and legacy system support
  • Strong communicator who can work with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Organized, self directed, and comfortable managing competing priorities
  • Positive, delivery-focused mindset with a willingness to learn legacy environments
