Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for elderly residents, identifying their specific emotional and psychological care needs.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions focused on navigating the complexities of aging, addressing grief, and facilitating life transitions.
• Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, including social workers and nurses, to create and implement individualized care plans for our senior clients.
• Lead educational sessions for families and staff on enhancing the well-being and quality of life for elderly individuals, sharing effective coping strategies and resources.
• Implement targeted interventions, such as cognitive stimulation programs, aimed at promoting mental acuity and social engagement among elderly populations.
• Facilitate grief and loss counseling for residents and their families who are experiencing end-of-life issues, providing compassionate support throughout the process.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The primary focus of this role is on senior clients who are experiencing a variety of emotional and psychological challenges, including those related to grief, depression, anxiety, and the impact of aging. Counselors will work with elderly individuals from various backgrounds, ensuring culturally competent care that respects each client's unique life experiences and needs.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution, with a valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) certification.
• Minimum of four years of recent experience providing mental health support and counseling specifically for geriatric populations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of evidence-based interventions effective in promoting emotional well-being in older adults.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with elderly clients and their families efficiently.
• Ability to conduct thorough mental health assessments and design personalized treatment approaches based on client needs.

Preferred Experience

• Additional training or specialization in geriatric mental health and aging-related issues is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience working within a collaborative healthcare team setting.
• Knowledge of ethical and legal standards relevant to geriatric mental health counseling.
• Experience in developing and facilitating mental health programs aimed at elderly clients.

Compensation and Benefits
