Job Title: Material Handling Operator 2

Location(s): Portland, OR
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Material Handling Operator responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, picking, packaging, and shipping materials. The role requires accurate inventory management, proper use of material-handling equipment, timely system transactions, and adherence to shipping, safety, and dangerous-goods requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming goods and verify material number, description, and quantity against shipping documents.
  • Inspect incoming materials for visible damage and document discrepancies as required.
  • Safely operate and properly use material-handling equipment, including hand-guided industrial trucks and forklifts.
  • Enter and maintain material and inventory data accurately in designated systems.
  • Coordinate the acceptance, storage, movement, commissioning, and removal of materials within the warehouse.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct regular stock checks and physical inventories.
  • Pick materials from designated storage locations based on delivery requirements.
  • Verify picked materials for completeness and accuracy, including quantity and material/article number against delivery documentation.
  • Package outgoing shipments according to shipping instructions, approved packaging methods, and applicable requirements, including dangerous-goods procedures where applicable.
  • Prepare and attach required shipping documentation to outgoing materials.
  • Perform internal and, when required, external material transportation using appropriate vehicles or transportation equipment.
  • Follow established warehouse procedures, safety requirements, and operational guidelines.
  • Resolve routine and unexpected operational issues using sound judgment and established procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Minimum 3 years of vocational training or equivalent specialized training.
  • Approximately 3 years of practical experience in warehouse, logistics, material handling, inventory, or a related field.
  • Basic theoretical and practical knowledge of warehouse processes, procedures, work routines, and material-handling practices.
  • Experience working with specialized warehouse or inventory management software/systems.
  • Ability to operate standard material-handling equipment safely; forklift experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to accurately interpret shipping documents, delivery notes, material numbers, quantities, and packaging instructions.
  • Understanding of standard shipping and packaging procedures; dangerous-goods handling knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate inventory and shipment records.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to provide a 7-year employment history.
  • Must successfully pass a 10-year background screening.
  • Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug screening.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple processes and routine operational situations independently.
  • Must be capable of applying established procedures and adapting them appropriately when unexpected issues arise.
