Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Resident Care Coordinator, the Personal Care Attendant will assist in the care of residents by carrying out certain activities of daily living, recreational, dietary, and light housekeeping services in carefully selected situations.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma, GED or active registry status on the Pennsylvania nurse aide registry.

Successful completion of a training program that meets standards set by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Aging; OR experience listed below preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one (1) year of Nurse Aide experience, including the ability to demonstrate competency in skill areas, may be substituted for training program listed above preferred.

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Clearances required: PA State Police criminal history check

and PA Department of Aging FBI fingerprint clearance (if applicable).

Must demonstrate competency in all skill areas included in the Personal Care Home directives or be willing to be trained.

Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.

Must maintain the standards of care and implement the policies and procedures of the facility and Allied Services.

Ability to read, write and carry out directions required.

Must demonstrate maturity, ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job and a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick.

Must practice good personal hygiene.

Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with staff and residents.

Must maintain confidentiality of resident information.

Valid PA driver's license and available transportation during all working hours preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.

Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.

ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:

Occasional exposure to body fluids.

Occasional chemical exposure from first aid supplies, resident prescriptions and some cleaning supplies.
