Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for seniors, tailoring care plans to meet their unique emotional and psychological needs.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions focused on pivotal issues relevant to aging, such as grief, anxiety about life transitions, and the impact of chronic illness.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to create integrated geriatric care strategies that enhance patient outcomes.
  • Provide educational resources and workshops for families and caregivers to foster understanding of emotional wellness strategies for the elderly.
  • Deliver specialized grief and loss counseling, particularly for residents and families dealing with terminal illness and end-of-life concerns.
  • Develop and implement cognitive stimulation programs aimed at improving cognitive functioning and overall mental health in older adults.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily focuses on providing mental health support to seniors, addressing a range of challenges such as depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, and the emotional impacts of aging. You will work closely with clients who are navigating complex life changes, including transitions related to health, loss, and identity. Our approach emphasizes respecting the dignity and individuality of each client while utilizing evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) status in New York State.
  • At least 4 years of recent, hands-on experience in geriatric counseling or related mental health fields.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques and evidence-based practices specifically tailored for the elderly population.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities to establish rapport with elderly clients and their families.
  • Demonstrated empathy, cultural competency, and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of older adults.

Preferred Experience

Compensation and Benefits
