Job description

Location: Cary, NC (Onsite presence required)
As a Product Manager at Railinc, you will be the driving force behind the development, enhancement, and success of our SaaS products. As part of a cross functional team, you will bridge the gap between market needs, competitor moves, technical feasibility, and business goals, to develop products that deliver customer value and meet business objectives
Key Responsibilities:
  • Product Strategy & Vision: Define and communicate a compelling product vision and strategy based on market trends, competitor moves, customer feedback, and business priorities. Develop a deep understanding of the target customers and the freight rail ecosystem.
  • Roadmap Planning: Create, maintain, and prioritize the product roadmap, balancing short-term goals and long-term strategy. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment across the organization.
  • Customer-Centric Innovation: Gather and synthesize feedback from customers through interviews, observational studies and prototyping.
  • Go-to-Market & Launch: Develop positioning, pricing, and messaging to drive adoption and growth to meet financial objectives.
  • Market Research & Competitive Analysis: Monitor competitor landscape and emerging technologies to ensure our products remain innovative and competitive.

Knowledge, Skills, abilities/minimum requirements/competencies:
Required:
  • AAR Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of the AAR Field and Office Manuals, including a proven ability to translate complex Job Codes, Why Made Codes, and Condition Codes into software business logic.
  • CRB Matrix Mastery: Comprehensive understanding of Car Repair Billing (CRB) systems, price matrices, and automated validation rules used to prevent billing errors and compliance rejections.
  • Lifecycle Agility: Experience managing product lifecycles aligned with strict, recurring compliance timelines, specifically AAR's quarterly rule and pricing updates.
  • Data Exchange Formats: Familiarity with the AAR CRB Data Exchange format (including 500-byte flat files or modern electronic equivalents) and the mechanics of transmitting billing data through Railinc.
  • Dispute & Audit Workflows: Functional understanding of the rail industry's exception handling and dispute resolution workflows, such as Counterbilling Authorities (CBAs) and repair history auditing.
  • Technical knowledge of software development and related technologies
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, comfortable working with data to inform product decisions.
  • Passion for understanding customer problems and enthusiasm for crafting delightful user experiences.

Education, experience, certification/training:
Required:
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience (product management, consulting, market research, logistics).
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration/related field (or equivalent related work experience).

Preferred:
  • AGILE/SCRUM experience and/or certified.
  • Design Thinking tools and methods.

VALUES:
  • Results: We deliver on our promises to create value for the freight rail industry through talented people, good ideas, business leadership and great technology.
  • Collaboration: We collaborate with our teams and our customers to get the job done, respecting individual ideas and contributions, and moving forward in pursuit of shared goals.
  • Service: We serve the changing needs of our customers and our industry to enhance the value they bring to our community, the environment and our economy.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary work: Assignment involves sitting at workstation (desk) most of the time (up to 8 hours) with only occasional walking and/or standing.
  • Keyboarding: Primarily using fingers for typing.
  • Talking: Expressing or communicating verbally through use of spoken words (accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others).
  • Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Visual: Through close visual acuity, required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading (with or without correction).
  • Environment: Because the requirements of this position require frequent, often informal collaboration with other Railinc colleagues and external stakeholders, and to maximize the development of the skills and responsibilities essential for this position, Railinc expects that the work required of this role be performed predominantly in the office consistent with Railinc's in-the-office work policies, as communicated by Human Resources and/or Senior Management. Any individual variations on in-the-office work policies will be reviewed by Human Resources on a case-by-case basis. As work is performed predominantly within an office setting, there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat, cold, noise, etc.).
