The Best Towns for Construction Jobs Right Now

Although the industry has experienced a relatively slow past few years, Construction is emerging as one of the major growth industries in 2016. An increase in demand for residential and green building projects is slowly driving the industry as a whole back to pre-Recession levels, but the more lasting effects of the crippling economic downturn are on the industry’s candidate pool. Available employees skilled in construction work have decreased over time as a result of boomer retirement, shortages following a decline in immigrant labor, and the hangover of Recession-era hiring stagnation.

Despite some challenges in filling these new roles, the industry is rising to meet consumer demand. Thirty-nine states added construction jobs between May 2015 and 2016, and New York reached a 40 year high for employment in the industry last year.

What are the best cities for landing a gig in construction? We looked at major metro areas with the most open positions in the industry and ranked them by least to most current incoming job applications to find out which cities are the best for finding construction work right now.
