What is a wetland?

A Wetland job typically involves assessing, managing, and conserving wetland ecosystems. Professionals in this field work on habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, regulatory compliance, and environmental impact assessments. Common roles include wetland scientists, ecologists, and environmental consultants. These jobs are essential for preserving biodiversity, preventing flooding, and maintaining water quality.

What types of projects do wetland scientists typically work on?

Wetland Scientists commonly work on projects related to wetland assessment, restoration, and compliance with environmental regulations for land development or conservation efforts. Their daily responsibilities may include conducting site surveys, collecting soil and water samples, analyzing data, and preparing technical reports for clients or regulatory agencies. Collaboration with engineers, biologists, land developers, and government officials is frequent, as project success often depends on interdisciplinary teamwork. This role offers opportunities to specialize in areas like wetland restoration design or regulatory permitting as you gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the wetland position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wetland Scientist, you need strong knowledge in ecology, hydrology, and environmental science, usually supported by a relevant degree and field experience. Familiarity with GIS mapping software, wetland delineation techniques, and relevant state or federal certifications, such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), is important. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help in conducting fieldwork and preparing reports. These skills are essential for assessing wetland environments, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting conservation or restoration projects.

Description
ABOUT LIVIC CIVIL
Imagine coming to work each day, excited to tackle challenges alongside a team that's just as driven and passionate as you are. We're LIVIC Civil, a tight-knit firm with a mission to guide our clients to success, whether through civil engineering, land development, traffic and transportation engineering, GIS, survey, or landscape design. With several of our biggest projects yet on the horizon, we're looking for someone ready to grow with us and help make a lasting impact.
This role isn't for everyone. If you:
  • Settle for "good enough,"
  • Avoid taking on new challenges,
  • Struggle with constructive feedback, or
  • Prefer working solo instead of on a team,

then this might not be the right fit. But if you're a fast learner, adaptable, and eager to research, problem-solve, and contribute to something bigger, you may be exactly who we're looking for.
WHO WE ARE
LIVIC Civil is Not Your Ordinary Civil Engineering Firm. Since our founding in 2017, we've partnered with clients who share our values of integrity, hard work, and responsiveness, delivering projects that go beyond expectations. As a small, agile firm, we're committed to evolving quickly, achieving exceptional results that set us apart.

As a Wetland Scientist at LIVIC Civil, you'll play a critical role. This person will be a self-motivated, professional who can confidently work with a variety of people from different backgrounds within the Civil Engineering field. We're looking for an organized, proactive individual who is a quick study and can communicate effectively, manage shifting priorities, and tackle complex challenges. Someone who is proactive, curious and willing to experiment with emerging tools and technologies to enhance our business and project workflow efficiencies while we aim to develop you professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Wetland delineation field work and technical report writing.
  • Lead and direct wetland and stream delineation fieldwork and reporting
  • Conduct wetland delineations, stream assessments, and floristic inventories
  • Support preparation of Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 401/404 permit applications
  • Assist with mitigation design, monitoring and habitat assessments
  • Collaborate with project teams and agencies to support environmental compliance
  • Soils assessment as part of the wetland delineation field data collection activities.
  • Collect, record, manage, and analyze geospatial data using Trimble and ESRI products.
  • Coordinating and meeting with regulatory agency staff.
  • Preparing and submitting threatened & endangered species consultations with regulatory agencies.
  • Apply situational awareness to mitigate in-field risks and ensure compliance with industry standards and client-specific safety requirements.

Pathways for Growth
At LIVIC, we value ambition and the unique strengths each team member brings. This role will allow you to evolve your own team with a "think outside of the box" attitude over time based on your interests, talents, and drive. Possible career growth paths include:
  • Project Management Roles - Leading projects from inception to completion.
  • Development Coordinator Roles - Focusing on business growth and client partnerships.

This position is ideal for someone who sees themselves growing into a future leader, whether in project management, operations, marketing, or client development.
QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to read blueprints and job-related documents

o Prior experience with identification of flora and fauna native to the Northeast.
    • Competency in general MS Office applications (Word, Excel) required.
    • Ability to conduct field work for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather and travel out of town to complete projects as needed.
    • Strong technical report writing skills, and flexibility to work in both group and one-on-one environments.
    • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record and able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
    • Strong technical education, professional demeanor, and a desire to learn.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Preferred:

o Five to Seven (5-7) years of field experience is preferred, with at least one (1) year in a lead role, performing wetland delineations in the Pennsylvania region, including previous experience following the USACE 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual, the Eastern Mountains & Piedmont Regional Supplement, and the Northcentral & Northeast Regional Supplement.
    • Certified Wetland Delineator and ability to become a Professional Wetland Scientist.
