Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Nuclear Safety/Safety Basis Engineer opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.
Work Location: Aiken, SC
Nuclear Safety/Safety Basis Engineer-
The Nuclear Safety/Safety Basis Engineer will support nuclear facility operations, engineering modifications, projects, and Safety Basis activities within the Department of Energy complex. The position will support the development, review, implementation, and maintenance of nuclear safety documentation and controls necessary for safe facility operation.
Duties:
  • Develop, review, revise, and implement nuclear facility Safety Basis documentation.
  • Prepare and review Safety Evaluation Reports and other technical evaluations supporting Safety Basis changes and approvals.
  • Support Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), Unreviewed Safety Questions (USQs), Potential Inadequacies in the Safety Analysis (PISAs), and associated nuclear safety documentation.
  • Evaluate facility modifications, engineering changes, procedures, and operating conditions for Safety Basis impacts.
  • Support hazard evaluations and identification of appropriate engineered and administrative controls.
  • Evaluate Safety-Class and Safety-Significant Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs) and associated credited controls.
  • Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, calculations, design packages, procedures, and work packages for nuclear safety impacts.
  • Perform facility walkdowns and interface with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Design Authority, and other technical organizations.
  • Support Safety System Oversight, configuration management, readiness activities, assessments, and resolution of nuclear safety issues.
  • Prepare clear and technically defensible nuclear safety evaluations, reports, and recommendations.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting DOE, commercial nuclear, nuclear fuel cycle, or other nuclear facility operations.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety, Safety Basis, engineering, and facility operations.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing, reviewing, approving, or implementing DOE Nuclear Safety Basis documentation.
  • Experience with DSAs, TSRs, USQs, PISAs, Safety Evaluation Reports, or hazard analyses.
  • Knowledge of 10 CFR 830, DOE-STD-3009, DOE-STD-1189, DOE-STD-1186, or related DOE nuclear safety requirements.
  • Experience with Safety System Oversight, Safety-Class/Safety-Significant SSCs, or credited safety controls.
  • Experience as a Nuclear Safety Specialist/Engineer, Safety Basis Engineer, Facility Engineer, Facility Representative, System Engineer, or Design Authority within an operating nuclear facilityLead or senior-level receipt inspection experience.

Other Job Requirements:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
