About Hyland Hills:

The Hyland Hills Parks and Recreation District strives to provides first-class parks, open spaces, facilities, 
and recreation programs that enrich and promote a healthy lifestyle, create memorable experiences, and 
build relationships between the District and its community while valuing equity and inclusion. Hyland Hills 
serves residents areas of Westminster and Arvada, Northglenn, Thornton and the Federal Heights.

Job Function:

Under general supervision of the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, the Zumba Instructor is responsible 
for the preparation and planning of fitness classes. They will instruct various levels and types of group 
fitness classes and provide information relevant to proper use of equipment, class structure and member 
wellness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Instruct and lead group fitness classes under the direction and guidance of the Fitness and 
Wellness Coordinator.
• Maintain interest and participation in district recreation, fitness, and wellness programs by 
conducting classes that are fun, safe and innovative.
• Encourage member recruitment and participation by educating our prospective and current 
members about classes and upcoming events.
• Work closely with the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator to introduce new and exciting class 
options to our participants.
• Maintain applicable education to maintain certifications. Certifications must be renewed prior to 
certification expiration dates.
• Dress in a professional and family friendly manner. 
• Utilize skills, abilities, and knowledge of kinesiology and physiology to instruct participants with 
respect to guest diversity and abilities.
• Enforce facility and class policies and procedures. 
• Communicate openly and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, staff, participants, parent, 
volunteers, and other community members
• Provide excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to 
answer questions and resolve problems.
• Find an appropriate substitute for classes upon absence. 
• Help clean, maintain, and organize all fitness and audio equipment. 
• Report any issues or concerns to the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator. 
• Identify and/or recommend maintenance, improvement, or repair of facility equipment, property, 
and operational procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility
• Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to help 
prevent accidents
• Perform additional assigned duties as required

Physical Demands, Job Location, and Equipment Utilization:

• The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud
• May require indoor and outdoor activities and exposure to the elements
• Travel by automobile is required to attend professional meetings and workshops or to reach a 
recreation activity site located away from the Hyland Hills Fitness Center.
• This position requires high levels of physical ability including standing, walking, talking, lifting, 
bending, reaching, jumping, stretching, etc. 
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral 
vision.
• Work with various fitness equipment such as weights, exercise bikes, fitness balls, mats, etc. 
• Able to carry up to 50lbs

Required Qualifications:

• Candidates over 18 must pass a background check prior to employment.
• Must be CPR/ AED and First Aid Certified within 60 days of hire
• Have and maintain a Zumba certification. 
• Must be available to work weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays.
