Ztp information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) Engineer, a strong background in network engineering, automation, and scripting (such as Python or Ansible), along with relevant certifications like Cisco CCNA/CCNP, is generally required. Familiarity with network management platforms, provisioning systems, and tools like NETCONF, REST APIs, or DHCP servers is essential. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure seamless, efficient network device deployment and integration, reducing manual errors and accelerating business operations.

What is the difference between Ztp vs Network Technician?

AspectZtpNetwork Technician
Required CertificationsFCC certifications, ZTP-specific trainingCompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA
Work EnvironmentField installations, network setup at client sitesNetwork troubleshooting, maintenance in office or data centers
Industry UsageTelecom, broadband providersIT, telecommunications, enterprise networks
Common Search IntentRoles in fiber and broadband deploymentNetwork troubleshooting and support

While both Ztp and Network Technician roles involve working with networks, Ztp primarily focuses on deploying and configuring zero-touch provisioning systems in telecom environments, whereas Network Technicians handle broader network troubleshooting and maintenance across various industries. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with Zero Trust Policy (ZTP) frameworks?

Professionals implementing and managing Zero Trust Policy (ZTP) frameworks often encounter challenges such as integrating ZTP into existing legacy systems, which may not be designed for granular access controls. Additionally, the need for continuous monitoring and verification of access can increase the workload and require close collaboration with IT, security, and compliance teams. Balancing security rigor with user experience and productivity is another frequent challenge, as overly strict controls can hinder daily operations. Despite these obstacles, many organizations invest in training and cross-functional teamwork to ensure successful ZTP adoption.

What are ZTP (Zero Touch Provisioning) specialists?

ZTP, or Zero Touch Provisioning, specialists are IT professionals who implement and manage automated network device configuration processes. Their primary role is to set up systems so that new devices, such as routers or switches, can be configured automatically with minimal manual intervention. This helps organizations scale their networks efficiently, reduce configuration errors, and save time on repetitive tasks. ZTP specialists typically work with network automation tools, scripting languages, and device management platforms to ensure reliable network deployments.

Job description

We are building the next generation of physical security automation for AWS data centers worldwide. Our team develops software that accelerates how security devices - think cameras, access control systems, and intrusion detection - are provisioned, monitored, and managed across hundreds of global sites.
As an SDE on this team, you will primarily work on Skyward, our security device lifecycle management platform, with a focus on Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) - a program that automates the end-to-end provisioning of physical security devices from construction drawings through to operational readiness. You will also contribute to Red Zone Passport, the application stack that supports red zone security workflows - including mobile validation, access control, and device compliance tooling used by security teams on the ground

This work directly impacts the speed at which new AWS data centers come online.
Key job responsibilities
Design and build backend services, APIs, and orchestration workflows that automate security device provisioning at global scale
Develop integrations with internal systems for device discovery, network configuration, and operational monitoring
Build event-driven architectures using AWS services (Lambda, DynamoDB, SNS/SQS, Step Functions) to process device lifecycle events in real time
Contribute to AI/ML-powered features that extract device metadata from engineering drawings and automate device naming and configuration
Partner with security engineers, site project managers, and systems integrators to translate operational workflows into scalable software solutions
Help evolve and maintain our red zone access and compliance platform, building features that support physical security operations across global sites
Own your deliverables end-to-end - from design through deployment and operations
About the team
The Raven Team is part of Infrastructure Security at AWS. We build and operate software that automates physical security device lifecycle management across AWS data centers globally. Our platforms - Skyward and Red Zone Passport - handle everything from automated device provisioning and health monitoring to red zone process automation

We work at the intersection of physical security and software engineering, partnering with security teams, data center security managers, and systems integrators to reduce the time it takes to bring new data centers online. We're a small, high-ownership team solving real-world infrastructure problems at global scale.
