Zoom Internships information

What are Zoom internships?

Zoom internships are remote internship opportunities that allow students or recent graduates to gain professional experience by working virtually through the Zoom video conferencing platform. These internships provide flexibility, enabling participants to collaborate with teams, attend meetings, and complete projects from anywhere with internet access. Zoom internships have become increasingly popular due to their accessibility and the ability to connect with companies and mentors worldwide. Participants can develop valuable communication, time management, and digital collaboration skills during these internships.

What are common responsibilities for interns during a Zoom internship, and how is mentorship typically structured?

As a Zoom intern, you can expect to work on real-world projects that contribute directly to your team’s goals, such as software development, user experience research, or business analysis, depending on your department. Interns are often paired with mentors or managers who provide regular check-ins, feedback, and guidance throughout the program. The work environment is highly collaborative, with opportunities to participate in team meetings, networking events, and workshops designed to foster learning and professional growth. This structure ensures that interns not only gain practical experience but also build valuable connections within the company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Zoom intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Zoom Intern, you typically need a foundation in your field of study, strong communication skills, and the ability to quickly learn new concepts. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and, for technical roles, basic programming or analytics tools is common. Proactiveness, adaptability, and a willingness to ask questions help interns stand out and make the most of their experience. These skills and qualities are essential for contributing effectively, learning quickly, and building strong professional relationships in a virtual internship environment.

Summer internships are agreat firststep ina young adult's journey as they prepare for the real world.Westrive to provide a fertile ground forfuture generations of software innovators, tech entrepreneurs and tech leaders. The goalofthisFTL internship programisto give them theenvironments, experienceandchallengesneeded to start a path towards a successfulcareer within thegrowingtech industry.

GST is a tech company, but also a great campus

"GST is atechcompany, but also a great campus for Future Tech Leaders.Through our FTL program, we want to raise up future generation tech leaders, set the stage for them to besuccessful in their futureprofessionalcareers.Informationtransformationis acceleratedin every industry, regardless which industryastudent chooses, andour FTL program will be the first step for the thousand miles journeyforthoseyoungentrepreneursandprofessionals"said Isaac Shi,Co-Founderand Presidentat Golden Section Technology.

Despite COVID-19and the new remote working place, we"virtually"welcomed a select group of students fromYale, University of Texas, and RiceUniversity. Together they broughttheir unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds toGST. Our "Future Tech Leadership"approachforour interns revolved arounddifferentways thatwecould prepare them forfutureleadership roleslike CIO,CEOand tech company founders. And we succeeded! Our former interns have already gained a greater understanding on certain software practices.

What our interns say

LarsFyhr(FTL 2020), our intern from University of Texas, said--

"My time here in GST has been nothing short of exceptional. While working as an intern for GST, I have been fortunate enough to build upon my prior knowledge tenfold, which served as an utterly amazing experience, even in an online remote format due to the ongoing pandemic. Some of the most valuable experience came from the meetings that I sat in on and often contributed to, whether they were client pitches or individual meetings with clients to provide support. I am grateful to know that the experience and knowledge that I have acquired working at GST will help tremendously in kickstarting my career in technology."

Max Yuan(FTL 2020), our intern from Yale University, said --

"This FTL Internship program with GST has been an incredibly fulfilling experience that has exposed me to every phase of the software development process. The sheer breadth of opportunities that are available at GST is what makes the program so unique. I've been directly involved in the planning, development, deployment, and maintenance of professional software for our clients, a level of engagement I highly doubt that you could reach interning for a Big Tech company.

Furthermore, this experience isn't company-specific-you can directly apply everything you learn during this internship to any other technical project. Sprint planning in Asana, resource management in AWS, development with React, and performance monitoring in New Relic are all examples of skills that will benefit me immensely in becoming a future tech leader."
