Computer Vision Research information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Computer Vision Research?

One of the main challenges in Computer Vision Research is dealing with the complexity and variability of real-world data, such as inconsistent lighting, occlusions, or image noise, which can make model development and testing difficult. Researchers also frequently need to stay updated with rapidly evolving algorithms and technologies while managing computational resource constraints. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and conveying technical findings to non-experts are important and sometimes challenging aspects of the job. Overcoming these challenges is essential for driving innovation and bringing cutting-edge vision applications to practical use.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Computer Vision Research position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Computer Vision Research, you need a strong background in mathematics, machine learning, and image processing, usually supported by a graduate degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or C++, deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, and experience with relevant certifications or published research is highly valued. Critical thinking, collaboration, and clear communication are essential soft skills in this role. These skills enable researchers to develop innovative solutions, share insights effectively, and drive progress in advancing computer vision technologies.

What is a Computer Vision Research job?

A Computer Vision Research job involves developing and improving algorithms that enable computers to interpret and analyze visual data from the world. Researchers in this field work on areas such as image recognition, object detection, and scene understanding using techniques from machine learning and deep learning. They experiment with datasets, design novel architectures, and publish findings to advance the state of the art in computer vision. These roles are commonly found in industries like healthcare, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and augmented reality.

Job description

Company Overview
Ambiq is on a mission to enable intelligence everywhere - powering the AI edge revolution with the world's lowest-power semiconductor solutions.
Built on our proprietary sub- and near-threshold technology, our chips deliver multi-fold improvements in energy efficiency without costly process scaling. Since 2010, we've shipped over 300 million units to customers building smarter wearables, medical devices, IoT products, and AI-powered edge applications.
Our cross-functional teams span design, research, development, production, marketing, sales, and operations across Austin, Hsinchu, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Singapore. We move fast, tackle hard problems, and create space for people to grow through complex, meaningful work that shapes the future of technology.
We're looking for self-motivated, creative problem-solvers who are eager to push technological limits and make a real impact in energy efficiency.
At Ambiq, we live by five values: Innovate. Collaborate. Focus. Learn. Achieve.
If that's you, join us - the intelligence everywhere revolution starts here.
We're seeking a Senior Imaging & Computer Vision Architect to help define the future of camera, imaging, video, and AI capabilities across Ambiq's next-generation SoC platforms.
What You'll Do
As a key member of our architecture team, you'll drive the definition and development of advanced imaging and computer vision architectures optimized for ultra-low-power operation. You'll work across hardware, software, AI, applications, and product teams to transform concepts into market-leading solutions.
Responsibilities include:
  • Define imaging, ISP, video, and computer vision architectures for future Ambiq products
  • Develop architecture specifications, power/performance models, system flows, and use-case definitions
  • Drive camera image quality and imaging pipeline strategy
  • Evaluate and integrate external and internal imaging, video, and AI IP
  • Partner with software teams to define APIs, hardware abstraction layers, and imaging frameworks
  • Collaborate with FPGA, design, verification, and physical design teams through implementation
  • Support customer engagements to understand requirements and align product capabilities with market needs
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and next-generation imaging technology strategy
What We're Looking For
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 8+ years of imaging, ISP, video, computer vision, AI accelerator, or related architecture experience
  • Proven experience creating architecture specifications for complex SoCs or hardware platforms
  • Expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Image Signal Processing (ISP)
    • Camera Systems
    • Computer Vision
    • Video Encode/Decode
    • Neural Network Acceleration
    • Embedded AI
  • Experience delivering products from concept through silicon validation
  • Strong understanding of low-power mobile, wearable, or IoT systems
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred:
  • MS or PhD
  • Advanced process node experience
  • Team leadership or technical leadership experience
Why Ambiq?
At Ambiq, you'll help create the world's most power-efficient semiconductor solutions, enabling a future where AI is everywhere. You'll work alongside exceptional engineers solving some of the industry's most challenging architecture problems while influencing products that reach millions of users worldwide.
Please note: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements. This position is based in Austin, Texas and requires onsite attendance five days per week.
