DeBakey VA Medical Center (Houston, TX) Start Date: July 1, 2025 Duration: Base Period of 1 Year with Four (4) One-Year Option Periods Work Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite Number of Positions: 35 Citizenship Requirements: U.S. Citizens and Green Card Holders Work Areas Include: Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) Emergency Room (ER) Medical/Surgical Units Stepdown Unit Spinal Cord Injury Unit Extended Care Unit Oversight: Clinical oversight provided by VA Nurse Manager or designated nursing leadership. Job Description: We are seeking experienced Critical Care Registered Nurses (ICU RNs) to provide exceptional care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The ICU consists of three units with 36 beds, dedicated to surgical, medical, and cardiac patients requiring advanced monitoring and intervention. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients, including those requiring isolation or COVID-19 treatment.
  • Perform advanced critical care procedures, including: Arterial line, hemodynamic, and central line monitoring. Mechanical ventilation management and ECG interpretation. Administration of vasoactive medications and thrombolytic therapy. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Intra-Atrial Balloon Pump (IABP), and post-anesthesia recovery care.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop care plans
  • Administer medications, including IV and blood products
  • Perform wound care, tracheostomy care, ventilator care, and suctioning
  • Monitor vital signs and hemodynamic status
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records
  • Respond to emergencies and provide clinical oversight to support staff
  • Ensure compliance with PPE, hand hygiene, and BCMA protocols
