Job description

Job Summary:

Team Penske is seeking a highly skilled Metrology Technician to join our team and strengthen our measurement, inspection, and build‑quality capabilities. This role will cover metrology protocols, scanning workflows, and reporting standards that directly improve the accuracy, repeatability, and compliance of our race car builds. The ideal candidate combines hands‑on metrology expertise with strong process thinking, and an ability to automate workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

Metrology Protocol Development

  • Enhance existing metrology procedures with documentation, and maintain standardized metrology procedures for components, sub‑assemblies, and full car builds.
  • Apply best practices for scanning, probing, alignment strategies, datum structures, GD&T interpretation, and long-term R&D.
  • Establish repeatable workflows that ensure measurement consistency across inspection technicians and shifts.

Measurement Execution & Toolchain

  • Operate and optimize Team Penske’s metrology systems, including:
    • ZEISS ATOS structured‑light scanners
    • Hexagon scanning systems
    • Nikon iGPS large‑volume tracking
    • FAROArm tactile probing
    • CMM Manager for Nikon Surveyor
  • Maintain calibration schedules, equipment readiness, and environmental controls.

Workflow Automation & Scripting

  • Apply data handling processes to streamline scanning routines, data processing, and report generation.
  • Create inspection workflows to reduce complexity and improve throughput.
  • Integrate metrology data into engineering, build, and quality systems.

Inspection & Quality Assurance

  • Perform incoming‑part inspections to identify supplier variation, batch drift, and potential legality concerns.
  • Support race‑car build inspections, including chassis, suspension, aero surfaces, and critical interfaces.
  • Generate clear, actionable inspection reports using ZEISS and other OEM software tools.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, fabrication, assembly, and race‑team groups to ensure measurement data is used effectively and respond to feedback from several departments.
  • Provide metrology insight during design reviews, supplier evaluations, and post‑event investigations.
  • Collaborate closely within the Team Penske metrology group to share lessons learned, align inspection strategies, standardize best practices, and elevate metrology performance across all Penske program


Qualifications:

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, or precision measurement.
  • Familiarity or coursework with CAD, Siemens NX preferred.
  • Proficiency with structured‑light scanning systems (ATOS, Hexagon, or equivalent).
  • Experience with tactile measurement tools (FAROArm, CMMs, laser trackers, or iGPS).
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, datum schemes, and alignment strategies.
  • Working knowledge of Python for automation, scripting, or data processing.
  • Ability to create clear, concise inspection reports and communicate findings effectively.
  • Hands‑on mindset with the ability to work in a fast‑paced, detail‑driven environment.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including overtime when necessary.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related technical field
  • Motorsports, aerospace, automotive, or high‑precision manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with ZEISS software (GOM Inspect, ATOS Professional, or similar).
  • Familiarity with CMM Manager or Nikon Surveyor workflows.
  • Understanding of composite structures, machined components, and assembly tolerances.
  • Experience training technicians or developing standardized procedures.
