Digital Content Specialist

We are seeking an exceptional Digital Content Specialist to lead and implement social media strategy and content creation for our federal government client. This role is responsible for audience growth and engagement tactics for external and internal audiences, including brand voice and storytelling, campaign strategies and ideation, tactical implementation, and social analytics.


This is a highly visible role for a specialist skilled in platform-native tools, content calendars and creative briefing, social listening tools, paid social optimization, and influencer and community management.


Key responsibilities for the Digital Content Specialist will include:

  • Owning and directing social media content across all platforms (e.g., X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms).
  • Serving as a senior authority on platform algorithms, optimization, and evolving trends, ensuring strategy stays ahead of the digital curve.
  • Setting the comprehensive, strategic framework for social and integrated digital storytelling that aligns with agency missions and departmental messaging priorities.
  • Working with designers, videographers, animators, and writers on creative approach, pacing, tone, format, and platform-specific storytelling.
  • Capturing and editing high-quality content for social media, including video and photos.
  • Leading, developing, and implementing real-time and rapid-response digital content for major announcements, events, and high-attention moments.
  • Presenting confidently digital strategies to senior federal leadership and political appointees, translating technical metrics into actionable insights.
  • Ensuring compliance with accessibility (Section 508), records management, security, and platform policies.
Requirements
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 7 years of experience. Alternatively, must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field and 5 years of experience.
  • Must be based in Washington, D.C. This onsite role will report to the federal client location daily.
  • Must be able to provide a portfolio of digital and social media content.
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a federal security clearance (public trust level).
  • U.S. citizenship is required with verbal and written fluency in English.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience leading digital or social strategy at an enterprise, agency, or government level.
  • Demonstrated command of major platform algorithms, paid/organic amplification strategies, and evolving audience behaviors.
  • Deep understanding of short-form social video best practices (audio, lighting, storytelling, captioning, editing).
  • Proven success working with cross-disciplinary creative teams (design, video, animation, copy).
  • Experience driving large-scale digital content campaigns with measurable impact.
  • Strong data literacy with the ability to translate analytics into actionable strategy.
  • Ability to operate confidently in high-pressure, fast-cycle environments.
  • Outstanding communication, leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong writing skills with a track record of producing client-ready deliverables from ambiguous or incomplete source material

  • Experience in federal, state, or local government; public affairs; national brands; or regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with crisis, reputation, and issue-management in digital spaces.
  • Knowledge of digital advertising, influencer strategy, and platform partnerships.

Base Compensation
  • Base compensation: $105,000 to $115,000 annually. Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, years of experience, and candidate skillset.
