Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Assistant assists the Maintenance Director in maintaining all aspects of the physical plant and grounds, and for aiding members and staff regarding all program areas and equipment.

In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Remove and properly dispose of all materials and equipment as scheduled
  2. Assist in the regular preventive maintenance of equipment as required
  3. Maintain the appearance of the grounds including cutting grass and other landscaping work as needed
  4. Assist in the repair of equipment and facilities as needed
  5. Properly store, use, and dispose of all substances and materials as directed
  6. Properly use equipment and materials according to YMCA and OSHA/ MSDS standards and policies
  7. Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service
  8. Assist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCA
  9. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participants

An employee or volunteer's failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Sound working knowledge of basic mechanical equipment functions.
  4. Ability to make general repairs as required.
  5. Ability to foster positive staff, peers, and program participants relations.
  6. CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment.
  7. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
