Industry UsageJewish education, religious institutionsReligious leadership, community guidance

Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths in Jewish religious professions.

What is a Yeshiva job?

A Yeshiva job typically refers to a position within a Jewish educational institution focused on the study of religious texts, such as the Torah and Talmud. Roles in a Yeshiva can vary widely and include teaching, administrative work, student support, and facility management. Teachers, or rabbis, often guide students in religious studies, while support staff help maintain the institution’s operations. The work environment is deeply rooted in Jewish traditions and values. Depending on the job, qualifications may include religious knowledge, teaching experience, or administrative skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Yeshiva educator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Yeshiva educator, you need deep knowledge of Jewish texts and law, effective teaching skills, and typically rabbinic ordination or advanced Torah study credentials. Familiarity with digital learning platforms and curriculum planning tools is increasingly valuable. Strong interpersonal communication, patience, and the ability to inspire students are standout soft skills in this role. These qualities ensure meaningful religious education, foster student engagement, and uphold the institution’s educational standards.

What are some common challenges faced by teachers working in a Yeshiva setting?

Teachers in a Yeshiva often encounter the challenge of balancing religious studies with general academic subjects, ensuring both are given appropriate emphasis. Additionally, adapting teaching methods to meet diverse student needs while maintaining the institution's religious values can be demanding. Collaboration with other educators and rabbinical staff is crucial, as is ongoing professional development to stay current with both secular and religious educational best practices. The supportive and close-knit environment of a Yeshiva often helps teachers overcome these challenges through teamwork and shared goals.

What is a yeshiva?

A yeshiva is a Jewish educational institution focused primarily on the study of traditional religious texts, such as the Torah and Talmud. Yeshivas are commonly attended by Jewish boys and men, although there are also institutions for women known as 'midrashot' or 'seminaries.' The curriculum emphasizes in-depth textual analysis, ethical discussions, and religious law. Yeshivas play an important role in preserving Jewish scholarship and fostering spiritual growth within the community.

Are you the kind of teacher who…

  • Brings science to life for students through hands-on labs, experiments, modeling, and inquiry-based learning?

  • Sees science not just as a body of knowledge, but as a way for students to better understand the world around them and their place within it

  • Builds strong relationships with students and creates classrooms where curiosity is encouraged, mistakes are part of learning, and all voices are valued

If that sounds like you, please keep reading and then reach out to express your interest in joining the team at Kohelet Yeshiva in Lower Merion, PA.

Kohelet Yeshiva is seeking a thoughtful, engaging, and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026–2027 school year. We are looking for an educator who is excited to help students explore the natural world, develop scientific thinking skills, and build a deep sense of curiosity about how and why things work.

Kohelet Yeshiva is a dual-curriculum K–12 yeshiva day school where the culture empowers student voice, engagement, and growth. Our students divide their time between analytic, text-based Judaic Studies and rigorous, college-preparatory General Studies.

What You’ll Be Part Of
  • A collaborative and supportive faculty team that values reflection and growth

  • A school culture that prioritizes meaningful learning and strong relationships

  • A commitment to helping students become thoughtful, curious, and engaged learners

  • Ongoing professional dialogue about curriculum, instruction, and student development

We’re hoping to meet someone who:
  • Loves science and enjoys helping adolescents make sense of the natural world through inquiry and discovery

  • Creates an engaging classroom where hands-on learning, experimentation, and questioning are central

  • Brings warmth, patience, and enthusiasm for working with middle school students

  • Is excited to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive school community

  • Believes deeply in the potential of middle school students and enjoys working with them at this important stage of growth

  • Holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Science, Science Education, Education, or a related field
