What is a year round camp?

A Year Round Camp job is a position at a camp that operates throughout the entire year, rather than just during the summer. These roles can include program coordinators, outdoor educators, maintenance staff, and administrative support. Staff members help run activities, maintain camp facilities, and support special events or school programs. It’s a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in an outdoor, community-focused environment year-round.

What does a typical day look like for someone working at a year round camp?

A typical day at a year-round camp involves planning and leading activities such as sports, arts and crafts, nature hikes, or team-building exercises tailored to campers' ages and interests. Staff may also supervise meals, manage cabin groups, and handle administrative responsibilities like attendance and safety checks. Collaboration with other team members is essential to coordinate schedules, address camper needs, and ensure a smooth operation. The role is dynamic, often requiring flexibility to adjust plans based on weather, group dynamics, and special events. This variety makes each day unique and rewarding for those who enjoy working in energetic, outdoor-focused environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the year round camp position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Year Round Camp role, you need experience in youth development, activity planning, and group leadership, often supported by certifications in first aid, CPR, and sometimes lifeguarding or outdoor education. Familiarity with scheduling software, safety protocols, and basic administrative tools is typically required. Excellent communication, flexibility, and conflict resolution skills help team members succeed in dynamic camp environments. These abilities ensure camper safety, high-quality programming, and a positive, inclusive atmosphere throughout the year.
