Job Title: Yard Dog Driver

Pay Rate: $17.00/hr.

Shift: 1st and 2nd

Job Summary:

The Yard Dog Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers within the pistachio processing yard. This role ensures timely staging of trailers for loading and unloading during peak harvest and processing operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a yard tractor (yard goat) to move empty and loaded trailers between loading docks, hoppers, scales, and storage areas.
  • Spot trailers for loading/unloading based on shipping and production schedules.
  • Ensure trailers are correctly aligned at docks or Receiving Pit areas to avoid damage or delays.
  • Communicate with shipping, receiving, and hulling teams to maintain smooth trailer flow.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of yard trucks and report mechanical issues.
  • Maintain safe speeds and awareness in high-traffic areas with workers, forklifts, and equipment.
  • Document trailer movements and maintain accurate yard logs or reports as needed.
  • Follow all company safety protocols, PPE guidelines, and DOT rules (if applicable).
  • Keep trailer yard Organized and uniformed for smooth traffic operations


Qualifications:

  • Experience operating yard trucks or similar equipment preferred.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license required; CDL a plus but not always required for yard-only operation.
  • Ability to safely operate in tight spaces and busy outdoor environments, often in dusty or hot conditions.
  • Must be able to work long hours, especially during pistachio harvest season.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.


Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in agriculture or nut processing yards.
  • Familiarity with trailer staging in food-grade facilities or seasonal ag operations
