How much do yachts jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for yachts in Michigan is $22.45, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.71 and $25.14 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a yacht crew member, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Yacht Crew Member, you generally need seamanship skills, safety training, and relevant certifications such as STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping). Familiarity with navigation equipment, deck operations, and maintenance systems is typically required. Strong teamwork, communication, and adaptability are essential soft skills for working effectively in close quarters and serving guests. These capabilities ensure smooth operations, passenger safety, and a high standard of service aboard yachts.

What are some common challenges faced by crew members working on yachts, and how can they be addressed?

Crew members on yachts often face challenges such as long working hours, limited privacy, and adapting to living in close quarters with colleagues. Building strong communication skills and maintaining a positive attitude are essential for a harmonious work environment. It's also important to stay organized, manage fatigue through proper rest when possible, and respect cultural differences among the international crew. Many yacht crews benefit from clear onboard protocols and regular team meetings to address issues proactively.

What is the difference between Yachts vs Marine Engineers?

Common Search & Comparison IntentYachts vs Marine Engineers

Yachts are luxury vessels primarily used for private leisure and charter services, requiring specialized crew and certifications. Marine engineers, on the other hand, work on a variety of ships, focusing on maintaining and repairing ship machinery. While both roles involve maritime certifications and work in the maritime industry, yachts emphasize luxury and leisure, whereas marine engineers are integral to ship operation and safety across commercial and industrial vessels.

What is a yacht?

Yachts are large, often luxurious boats or ships primarily used for private leisure, cruising, or racing. They typically range from about 33 feet (10 meters) to over 200 feet (60 meters) in length and may be powered by sails or engines. Yachts can be privately owned or available for charter, and they often come equipped with high-end amenities for comfort and entertainment. The term 'yacht' usually implies a certain level of luxury and exclusivity compared to regular boats.

Job description

Make Every Surface Shine

At Tiara Yachts, every boat tells a story, and as a Marine Coating and Finishing Technician, you ensure it starts with a flawless finish. From smooth, mirror-like gelcoat surfaces to carefully buffed and polished details, you’ll apply the coatings that define the look and feel of our world-class vessels. This is more than paint, it’s precision, protection, and pride in every pass.

If you love transforming raw surfaces into refined works of art and take pride in the perfection of your work, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Apply gelcoat, varnish, or other protective and aesthetic coatings using spray guns and other equipment

  • Prepare surfaces through sanding, cleaning, and masking to ensure ideal conditions for finishing

  • Inspect and blend finishes to ensure even color, texture, and coverage

  • Buff and polish surfaces to achieve a smooth, high-gloss final result

  • Mix materials and adjust spray equipment settings to meet quality standards

  • Follow all safety protocols when handling chemicals, PPE, and ventilation

  • Maintain tools and workspace for consistent quality and cleanliness

What It Takes:

  • Experience with spray equipment, buffers, and other finishing tools

  • Ability to identify surface flaws and make fine adjustments for best results

  • Steady hand, attention to detail, and pride in delivering a perfect finish

  • Physical ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs

  • Familiarity with gelcoat, paint, or similar coatings in marine or automotive environments preferred

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to support smooth production flow

Why This Job is Special:

Your finish is the first thing people see, and one of the lasting impressions they’ll carry. As a Marine Coating and Finishing Technician, you give each yacht its signature look. You’ll walk away each day knowing you’ve helped turn a boat into a work of art.

Turn craftsmanship into a lasting impression.
Apply today to become a Marine Coating and Finishing Technician at Tiara Yachts — where beauty is built into every detail.
