Job description

Precision TIG Welding Specialist — AC/DC, Aluminum & Alloys

Company: Howmet Aerospace | Location: LaPorte, IN

Why this role
  • Work with complex castings, dies, molds, and fixtures under defined weld procedures and customer specifications.
  • Own Class A results that satisfy FPI and X-Ray acceptance.
  • Apply TIG/GTAW expertise across multiple alloys, including aluminum.
Schedule
  • Training: Monday–Friday, 1st shift (6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.), up to 6 months.
  • Post-training: 2nd shift (2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.) or 3rd shift (10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.).
Pay
  • Start at $27.07/hour
  • Increase to $28.39/hour after 12 months
What you’ll tackle
  • Execute repair and production welds on castings to Class A criteria (FPI and X-Ray acceptance).
  • Perform occasional maintenance/fixture welding across varied alloys, including aluminum.
  • Build and apply copper backups to enable high-quality welds.
  • Operate AC/DC welding power sources; manage all torch components in-process.
  • Select weld wire alloy type and diameter appropriate to each job.
  • Tune power source parameters and set shielding gas for torch and backups.
  • Blend welds to specified contours and finish on repair and production work.
  • When acting as a weld blender, prepare welds as required.
  • When acting as a weld blender, complete finishing, rework, and metal cleaning as needed in line with Metal Cell Operator (MCO) responsibilities.
Must-haves
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of TIG welding experience
Nice-to-haves
  • Vocational training in welding
  • Manual GTAW skill with remote foot control
