Roles can vary from software development and 3D modeling to UX design and content creation. XR jobs require expertise in tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, and AR/VR hardware.

What does an XR do?

A typical day for an XR Developer involves designing, coding, and testing interactive AR or VR applications, often collaborating closely with designers, 3D artists, and project managers. You may spend time troubleshooting performance issues, staying current with new XR tools, and iteratively refining user experiences based on team feedback and user testing. Many XR Developers participate in daily or weekly team stand-up meetings to discuss progress and challenges. The role often combines independent technical work with regular team collaboration to ensure projects align with creative and functional goals.

What skills and qualifications are needed for an XR?

To excel as an XR (Extended Reality) Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages such as C#, C++, or JavaScript along with a background in computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with XR platforms and tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, and knowledge of AR/VR SDKs is highly valuable. Creativity, problem-solving skills, and effective collaboration set top candidates apart in multidisciplinary teams. Mastering both technical and soft skills enables XR Developers to create immersive, user-friendly experiences and adapt to a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
