Job Description:
DirectViz Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented XML Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) Developer to support the conversion, development, and maintenance of military and technical documentation. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience working with HTML/XML-based publishing technologies and a strong understanding of technical data conversion, quality assurance, and electronic technical manual development.
This position supports the creation and maintenance of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and other technical publications utilized by government and defense customers. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with structured data formats while ensuring compliance with military formatting standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Convert legacy paper-based and PDF technical manuals into structured XML and SGML formats.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using XML/SGML data and Interactive Authoring and Display Software (IADS).
  • Execute and maintain UltraEdit macros and text-editor-based automation processes to improve data conversion and publishing workflows.
  • Ensure technical publications comply with Military Standards (MIL-STD) formatting, style, and content requirements.
  • Review, organize, and restructure complex technical information to improve readability, usability, and consistency.
  • Identify missing, incomplete, or conflicting source documentation and coordinate resolution activities.
  • Conduct detailed quality assurance reviews by comparing converted XML/SGML files against source documentation to validate text, graphics, tables, and figures.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve data integrity, formatting, and rendering issues within electronic publications.
  • Support testing, validation, and deployment of technical publication deliverables.
  • Collaborate with technical writers, engineers, subject matter experts, and government stakeholders to ensure publication accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain configuration control and version management of technical publication data.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with HTML, XML, SGML, or related markup languages.
  • Experience performing technical document conversion, editing, or electronic publishing activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical information and identify inconsistencies or errors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
