JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Physicist is the principal technical resource to departments regarding radiation safety and advises staff on strategies to reduce radiation hazards and provides guidance related to the technical and regulatory compliance with Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) laws.

  • Regularly monitors the personnel dosimetry program as well as scatter and leakage from X-ray analytical equipment while keeping records of these measurements.
  • Provides comprehensive training to all radiation workers regarding radiation safety during job performance.
  • Serves as a primary contact for all PNRA-related matters, including visits and official correspondence.
  • Ensures that all disposals are in accordance with the waste disposal policy of radioactive material.
  • Plays a central role in decontamination and emergency procedures related to radioactive materials.
  • Ensures prompt distribution and collection of dosimeters, with timely delivery of results for all staff.
  • Makes regular inspections of radio-active storage sites for monitoring of radiation levels and contamination of working surfaces, with adequate and accurate documentation.
  • Arranges diagnostic tests for all existing radiology staff and ensures proper medical examination at regular intervals.
  • Maintains records of the radioactive materials brought into the department including their usage, storage and safe disposal.
  • Represents the organization at various business/medical meetings, committees, and task forces for the promotion of existing and new programs and/or policies.
  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-term goals to achieve strategic targets of the organization.
  • Prepares and updates SOPs for the safe use and operation of prescribed radioactive substances, x-ray equipment and radiological products.
  • Ensures compliance with Radiation Safety protocols and performs observational audits at regular intervals to monitor staff practices.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of PNRA-related documentation.
  • Regular visits and observational audits of all sites for radioactive contamination and personnel dosimetry.
