What is a WSET Level 3?

A WSET Level 3 job typically refers to roles in the wine and spirits industry requiring an advanced understanding of wines, such as sommeliers, wine educators, buyers, or sales representatives. Holding a WSET Level 3 certification demonstrates in-depth knowledge of wine styles, production, and tasting analysis. Professionals with this qualification often work in hospitality, retail, distribution, or education, advising customers, managing inventories, or conducting tastings and training sessions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the WSET Level 3 position, and why are they important?

Excelling in a WSET Level 3 role requires advanced knowledge of wines, strong tasting and analytical skills, and typically a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines certification. Proficiency in using inventory management systems, point-of-sale software, and wine education resources is commonly expected. Excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills help professionals build rapport with clients and colleagues. These competencies are crucial for successfully educating others, managing selections, and supporting sales in wine-focused environments.

What types of career advancement opportunities are available after achieving a WSET Level 3 certification?

Earning your WSET Level 3 certification opens doors to a variety of wine industry paths, such as wine buying, sales representation, education, or hospitality management. Many professionals use this qualification as a stepping stone toward the WSET Diploma (Level 4), which can further enhance career prospects. With your advanced wine knowledge, you may also qualify for roles leading tastings, managing cellars, or curating wine lists for restaurants, retailers, or importers. Gaining practical experience and building a strong industry network can help you move into senior or specialized positions over time.

WSET Level 3 is a recognized certification in wine and spirits knowledge that can enhance your qualifications for roles such as sommelier, wine buyer, or beverage manager. Job description

Sommelier & Spirits Specialist (Retail & Buying Track).

We are looking for a full-time (40 hr/wk) Sommelier & Spirits Specialist (Retail & Buying Track) to join our team, and we would love to connect with someone from our local sommelier or high-end hospitality community.

If you love working with benchmark producers and curated portfolios but are ready to step away from the late-night restaurant grind, this role offers a clear path into retail buying, cellar advisory, and boutique management on a consistent schedule.

Key Details:

  • Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), Sunday through Thursday. Every Friday and Saturday off.

  • Growth Track: You will take immediate ownership of our spirits program and retail floor operations while apprenticing directly alongside management on fine wine allocations (Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, and Piedmont), with a structured timeline to take on joint wine buying.

  • The Work: A balanced mix of high-touch floor advisory for private collectors/cellar clients and essential back-end operations (inventory control, POS management, margin tracking, logistics, and vendor invoice data entry).

  • Perks & Benefits: 100% company-paid WSET Level 3 or advanced spirits certification, competitive compensation, full health coverage, and paid vacation.

What We’re Looking For: A detail-oriented professional with strong product knowledge who thrives in customer-facing retail, loves the beverage industry, and takes pride in the administrative precision required to run a premier shop.

How to Apply / Referrals: If you or someone in your network is looking for a rewarding, high-level career move with regular hours, please text 917-204-1255 or email alexa@hamptonspalmbeach.com.
