WSCs may also respond to and document incidents, perform equipment inspections, and coordinate with maintenance and management teams to address potential hazards. The role often requires balancing administrative tasks and hands-on oversight to maintain a safe environment for both staff and patrons. Collaboration with lifeguards, swim instructors, and facility managers is key to promoting a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.

What is a WSC?

A WSC (Water Service Coordinator) job typically involves managing water service projects, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and coordinating with engineers, contractors, and government agencies. WSCs play a key role in facilitating water connections, assessing infrastructure needs, and overseeing approvals for plumbing and development projects. This position requires knowledge of water systems, permitting processes, and industry standards to ensure efficient water service delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the WSC position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Water Safety Coordinator (WSC), strong knowledge of water safety protocols, risk management, and relevant safety regulations—often supported by certifications such as CPO (Certified Pool Operator) or lifeguard credentials—is essential. Familiarity with pool testing equipment, incident reporting systems, and facility management software is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help WSCs effectively train staff and respond promptly to emergencies. These abilities ensure a safe aquatic environment, regulatory compliance, and efficient teamwork in facility operations.
