Position Title: SUN Extended Day Instructor

Reports To: SUN Community School Site Manager

Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt, Temporary

Compensation: $17-$18.50 per hour; 6-15hrs/week these are temporary employee positions

We do this through Latino community-driven programs, advocacy, and service. Our work springs from the core belief in Latino community self-determination, that is, the ability of community members to participate meaningfully in the decisions that affect their lives and the lives of their families. We actively partner across a variety of city, county, state, and community organizations to deliver training and support, a wide range of services, as well as influence policy.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Latino Network seeks a bilingual mission-driven professional with bi-cultural familiarity and proven nonprofit and community experience to lead a full range of activities for a growing organization. As part of a dedicated team working toward a shared vision, the SUN Extended Day Instructor is charged with supporting the SUN Community School Site Manager. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position with the capacity to impact the education and wellbeing of hundreds of young Latino children and their families each year. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Extended Day Instructor will work with the SUN Site Manager and Extended Day Coordinator to provide opportunities for academic and enrichment after-school classes.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and lead enrichment classes for student groups of 10-15 children; ages 6-14.
  • Engage and supervise students in enrichment classes, recess, and lunch for student groups of 10-15 children; ages 6-14.
  • Supervise students in Safety protocols to ensure all are being safe even in areas such as: buses, hallways, classrooms, outdoor spaces, doorways as they enter and exit the building.
  • Act as a positive role-model for students.
  • Follow all guidelines and protocols as directed by SUN Manager.
  • Complete other activities as assigned by SUN Manager.
Requirements:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Desire and ability to work with children ages 6-14 from diverse backgrounds to ensure an enriching, positive, and safe classroom setting.
  • Experience planning and providing academic and recreational activities to students in after-school environments.
  • Demonstrate comfort in following various curricula to engage students in a myriad of ways.
  • Experience developing and effectively executing academic and recreational lesson plans to a diverse student population.
  • Ability to document work continually and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks.
  • Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Latino Network.

ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly work in the school, and in the community as needed, including client homes, schools, churches, parks, community centers, etc.
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required, and work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods.
  • Reliable transportation to the school site and for tasks needed for its programs.
  • May require heavy lifting and walking during events and outreach activities.
  • Undergoing criminal and passing background check including fingerprinting is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather), and extreme heat (non-weather). This position requires frequent computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
