Position Summary:
Writing Center tutors work with our undergraduate and graduate students on their written work for classes, personal statements, dissertations, etc. Rather than acting as editors or proofreaders, they engage with students in order to help them discover their own voices, understand and develop their central arguments, and improve their clarity and grammar. Our tutors may also work with students on skills in reading and oral presentation.
Essential Functions:
Works with students in a collaborative manner on writing issues like brainstorming, developing ideas and arguments, supporting and structuring essays, and revision. Understands or is eager to learn writing center Best Practices. May work with students on essays, personal statements, dissertations, and etc.
Additional Functions:
Supports the work of the writing center through outreach and creating materials. May work with students on oral presentations, research, and related issues.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
This is an hourly part-time position. Successful applicants should have or be working on a Master's degree in a related field. Classroom experience or previous writing center experience is preferred.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $30.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
