Job description

Winpak Lane is seeking an Associate Technical Writer to join our Engineering team in Rialto, California. You will turn complex machine and process information into clear manuals, work instructions, service guides, and digital training content for employees and customers. This role is ideal for an organized communicator who enjoys working across Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Service, and Quality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and update machine operation and maintenance manuals as equipment designs evolve.
  • Develop technical documentation that meets applicable European conformity formatting and content requirements.
  • Create standard operating procedures, test procedures, service bulletins, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
  • Develop assembly work instructions and audio/video learning content for Operations and Quality systems.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical data, regulatory information, and input from technical subject-matter experts.
  • Manage document revisions, change-control activities, and language-translation coordination.
  • Participate in design reviews and concurrent product-development activities with internal and external customers.
  • Evaluate new documentation formats, including embedded-machine, web-based, and video content, to improve the customer experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical communication, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ year of technical writing experience.
  • Ability to translate technical information for audiences with different levels of expertise.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Experience with document revision and change-control processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, plus Adobe applications.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds and work in office and manufacturing environments, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience documenting automated or custom-manufactured machinery.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk, product data management, Adobe Photoshop, or audio/video production tools.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and machinery-related safety or regulatory standards.
  • Familiarity with failure mode and effects analysis, Lean manufacturing, standard work, 5S, statistical process control, or Six Sigma.

Additional Details
  • Full-time, non-exempt position based 100% onsite in Rialto, California.
  • Schedule and shift will be confirmed during the recruitment process; overtime may be required based on business needs.
  • Travel is generally not required.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with noise, moving equipment, flying debris, temperature changes, and required personal protective equipment.

Compensation
Compensation range: $24-$26. Pay will be determined based on the candidate's experience, demonstrated skill level, and other job-related factors.
