Job Description
Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for one full-time Postdoctoral Research position to collaborate with our team in areas of sustainable construction materials, testing, and simulation. Candidates should have a primary interest and background in building materials, micromechanics based modeling and developing simulation algorithms and tools. The post doc will work within a dynamic research team, will be exposed to interdisciplinary research and engagement, and will be expected to communicate with diverse audiences through various media.
The position is available to start as soon as selected. The Postdoctoral researcher will report to Dr. Hongyu Zhou. This is a twelve-month appointment, renewable annually for up to two years based on performance and funds availability. The compensation package includes a competitive salary, health benefits, career mentoring, and any required travel.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing experimental program for sustainable building materials
  • Perform contracted research in the area of building materials, and infrastructure data management
  • Training of undergraduate and graduate students on simulation software
  • Assist simulation work.
  • Developing codes and algorithms to support data acquisition and analysis
  • Assist technical report writing
  • Assist proposal writing
  • Ensure safe laboratory and work space environment
  • Host lab tours
  • Equipment upkeep
  • Documentation of laboratory activities and related data as records

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree program
  • 2 years (including degree program) experience in building materials; comfortable working in teams to support experimental work
  • Knowledge of building materials and micromechanics based modeling
  • Knowledge of programming, data processing
  • Ability to develop simulation algorithms and tools
  • Ability to apply strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced experience in building material modeling and building energy simulation
  • 4 years (including degree program) experience in building material research

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) has 27 tenure-line faculty members and five non-tenured full-time teaching faculty and offers baccalaureate, masters, and PhD degrees in all areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
