Job description

Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) is seeking a Workstation Support Associate who will provide campus-wide hardware and software technology support including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and printers. Tasks may include but are not limited to computer and desktop preparation for new employees and collection/refreshing of equipment upon employee separation, installation of equipment, upgrades, hardware and software trouble shooting. The incumbent will work with technology to support employees and students and provide entry level training for users on desktop and laptop hardware and software use specific to each end user/department. The Associate will escalate extended problems through proper channels, keeping management informed as directed.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position and includes a competitive salary and comprehensive package with health, vision and dental insurance benefits, retirement benefits, a generous holiday and vacation schedule, and undergraduate tuition remission for employees' dependents among other benefits. Successful candidates will work typical office hours but may include some evenings and weekends for emergencies.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Performs hardware and software installations, testing, trouble shooting, repairs, upgrades and replacements. Provides technical support for computer systems deployed across campus and responds to problems reported to CSIT.
  • Participates in placement of new or replacement computer systems, printers or other peripheral devices and maintains inventory for deployed computer equipment.
  • Assists with deployment of new equipment and training users on basic operations of the equipment and required software for the position.
  • Maintains security practices and procedures for the protection, security, and privacy of computer systems deployed on campus.
  • Writing reports upon request, creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), documentation of internal processes and work performed on various projects in the ticketing system and tracking of inventory.
  • Provide advice on purchasing of hardware and software licensing, consistent with ITS policies and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems Management or a closely related field is required, or related work experience is required.
  • One to two years of computing and technology support experience with a preference for experience in a higher education setting.
  • Must have working knowledge of:
    • computers and corresponding operating systems, including, but not limited to, Windows and Macintosh computers.
    • support of application software and hardware for Windows and Macintosh.
    • mobile operating systems (IOS, Android and Windows)
    • computer networking configuration and troubleshooting (ex. Wi-Fi protocols)
  • Knowledge of printer installation and maintenance
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects that may be ongoing during the same time.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, time management, problem-solving, analytical skills, and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Possess good interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Experience with technical documentation is a plus.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills, be detail oriented, and be adaptable and flexible.
  • Possess knowledge of applicable audio/visual equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidential information contained in computer files and offices.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently, work on feet up to 6 hours per day, walk, crawl, bend, kneel, reach, twist, and climbing a ladder and stairs on a regular basis.
