Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm (may be required to respond to emergency calls after hours
Location: Kershaw County Public Works Department - Cassatt, SC

Reports to: Public Works Supervisor and/or Foreman
Job Summary:
Under regular supervision, the Heavy Equipment Motor Grader Operator will primarily operate specialized heavy machinery and trucks to accomplish tasks associated with the maintenance of County roads, rights-of-way, facilities and drainage systems.
Essential Duties:
Essential duties shall include but will not be limited to the following tasks:
• Operates heavy equipment machinery to maintain County dirt roads, re-establish ditches, grade shoulders, shape slopes, shape driveway aprons, spread gravel and other tasks
• As needed and as qualified, operate other equipment, such as: wheel loader, backhoe loader, vibratory soil compactor, track dozer, hydraulic excavator and/or semi-tractor with lowboy trailer
• Inspect roads to determine maintenance needs
• Maintain a daily log of tasks performed and completed
• As needed, perform a variety of related road maintenance tasks to include, but limited to:
Installation/repair/cleaning of drainage pipe and basins, installation of signs, asphalt patching, site and equipment clean-up, cutting vegetation in right-of-way, etc.
• As needed, assist other County departments such as Solid Waste, Utilities (sewer), Recreation, Building Maintenance, Airport, Administration, etc.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned
Responsibilities: It will be the responsibility of the employee to support the County to:
• Provide quality service to the residents of Kershaw County
• Present a positive image to the community
• Maintain positive and productive work relationships with all personnel
• Conform to all applicable safety rules and regulations
• Follow all applicable internal and external procedures, standards, ordinances and regulations
Supervision: This position has no permanent supervisory responsibilities but as necessary, crew supervision responsibilities may be assigned by the Public Works Director and/or Foreman
Education/experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Three (3) to five (5) years of heavy equipment/truck operator experience in general road maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training/certifications and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
• Valid SC driver's license with good driving record
• Unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License
Required Physical• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and sitting
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
