As a Project Manager, you will provide overall leadership and direction for assigned construction projects, ensuring successful delivery from project pursuit through to close-out. You will be responsible for managing cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contractual performance while maintaining strong relationships with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager and/or Construction Manager, this role holds decision-making authority across key project functions and ensures alignment with project objectives and company standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
  • Lead all phases of project delivery, including planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and project close-out.
  • Oversee project performance, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, quality, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide direction and leadership to Project Coordinators and collaborate closely with Project Superintendents.
  • Ensure successful project delivery in accordance with scope, specifications, and client expectations.
  • Participate in preconstruction activities, including logistics planning, permitting requirements, general conditions, insurance, bonds, and scheduling.
Contract Management
  • Support and/or lead subcontractor tendering processes, including development of trade scopes and bid packages.
  • Participate in subcontractor pre-award meetings and project startup activities.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of prime contracts and subcontract agreements.
  • Ensure contract compliance and manage contractual obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
Risk, Financial & Commercial Management
  • Develop and maintain project risk registers, including identification of potential risks, cost/schedule impacts, and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage project budgets and ensure timely and accurate billing submissions.
  • Monitor project financial performance and support achievement of profitability targets.
  • Enforce contractual payment terms and follow up with owners to ensure timely payments.
  • Identify revenue opportunities in collaboration with senior leadership and the Executive-in-Charge.
Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive project schedules.
  • Ensure accurate sequencing, resource allocation, and alignment with contractual milestones.
  • Monitor schedule performance and proactively communicate updates and revisions to all stakeholders, including owners, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Matheson Constructors' Health & Safety Program.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the commitment to workplace safety through leadership and accountability.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive project management experience overseeing commercial construction projects (hard bid, AFP, and/or negotiated).
  • Experience managing projects within mid-to-large general contracting environments.
  • Unionized construction experience considered an asset.
  • Professional designations (P.Eng, LEED) considered an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and construction plans.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, trades, and sequencing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, and safety glasses.
  • Manual dexterity required for computer and office equipment use.
  • Ability to attend meetings and site visits, including walking, standing, and physical movement.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying of materials up to 50 lbs, including drawings and project documents.
  • Extended work hours, overtime, and flexibility required to meet project deadlines.
