Duration: 3-month contract (ability to extend), full-time (40 hrs/week + overtime)
About the Team
The Startup Marketing team helps founders and developers build with OpenAI. We create high-signal programs, events, and content that help startups learn about new products, connect with other builders, and accelerate adoption of OpenAI across every stage of growth.
We partner closely with Product, Developer Experience, GTM, Partnerships, Events, and Communications teams to bring technical products to market and build meaningful relationships with the startup ecosystem.
About the Role
OpenAI is looking for a Startup Field Marketing Contractor to support the execution of startup programs, field events, and team operations.
This role is ideal for someone who loves bringing programs to life, thrives in fast-paced environments, and enjoys coordinating across multiple stakeholders. You'll work closely with the Startup Marketing team to support Founder Days, Builder Lounges, hackathons, DevDay, customer events, and day-to-day operational planning.
This is a hands-on execution role focused on helping the team scale high-quality experiences for founders and developers around the world.
What You'll Do
• Support registration, comms, and execution of startup events, including Founder Days, Builder Lounges, hackathons, dinners, workshops, and customer programs.
• Help coordinate startup marketing activations surrounding major company moments, including DevDay and product launches.
• Manage event logistics including registration, attendee communications, vendor coordination, gifting, swag, and onsite support.
• Partner with cross-functional teams across Marketing, Events, GTM, and Developer Experience to ensure programs run smoothly.
• Track program metrics, attendee feedback, and operational follow-ups.
• Provide general project management support across startup marketing initiatives as priorities evolve.
Who You Are
• 3+ years of experience in field marketing, events, community, operations, project management, or related functions.
• Exceptionally organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Comfortable managing multiple workstreams simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Enjoy working cross-functionally and building relationships across teams.
• Resourceful, proactive, and willing to jump into both strategic projects and operational details.
• Excited about startups, AI, and helping builders succeed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting developer, startup, or B2B technology events.
• Familiarity with event platforms, CRM systems, and marketing operations tools.
• Experience coordinating executive-facing or customer-facing programs.
Why This Role?
This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across startup marketing, field marketing, and large-scale event execution at one of the fastest-moving companies in the world.
You'll work alongside a small, high-impact team that engages some of the most ambitious founders and developers building with AI today. From Founder Days and Builder Lounges to hackathons, customer programs, and DevDay, you'll help bring flagship experiences to life during one of the team's most exciting seasons of the year.
If you're looking to build your field marketing, program management, and operational skills while working on high-visibility initiatives with meaningful impact, this role offers an unparalleled front-row seat to how OpenAI engages the startup ecosystem.
