Job description

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.Summary Assists Ranch Manager and Staff Veterinarian in the care and treatment of range cattle and/or cow-calf operations by performing the following duties.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Rides on horsebackin order toidentifysick, injured, or stressed animals; gathers cattle on range and pasture;calvescows; supplements feed during winter; repairs pasture and range fences.

Assists in treating sick or injured cattle by following an established medical treatment plan provided by the Staff Veterinarian and/or Ranch Manager/Foreman. Assists with processing and shipping cattle by sorting, branding, vaccinating, worming, and tagging. Moves cattle from pasture to pasture as directed by the Ranch Manager/Foreman.

Provides care to horses by shoeing, doctoring, feeding, and grooming as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned by the Ranch Manager/Foreman.Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilityrequired. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EducationHigh school diploma, GED or equivalent (Preferred, but notrequired)Experience Knowledgeable in the areas of animal health and cattle conditionsgenerally acquiredwith a minimum of two to five years related experience and/or trainingPrior experience working with cattle in one or more of the cattle production segments (cow-calf, stocker, cattle feeding) is preferredLanguage SkillsAbility to read andcomprehendsimple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.Reasoning Ability Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Additional Skills and Requirements Must be a licensed driver of single axle vehicles. Advanced horsemanship skills Must be able to saddle and ride a horse.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employeeregularly worksin outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
